  1. ?4 for a pint?! Of what - myrrh? Bloody pubcos upping prices no doubt. Do something about it: http://www.fairpint.org.uk/
  2. Two great gigs featuring legends of rock and soul: Thurs 3rd July Solomon Burke at the Barbican Hall Almost six decades into a career that stretches back to his days as the ?Wonder Boy Preacher? his great voice is still one of the most compelling sounds in American music ? and he?s set to raise the Barbican roof. Support comes from the LA-based live funk 10-piece Breakestra who mix old skool funk, soul and hip hop. Link And then..... Sat 19th and Sun 20th July Chuck Berry at the Hackney Empire In his 81st year he's certainly lost none of the talent and energy that has electrified audiences worldwide for over half a century. With classic hits including Roll over Bethoven and Jonny B. Goode, Chuck Berry live at the Hackney Empire promises to be an electrifying night of entertainment from one of the founding fathers of Rock and Roll! Link
  3. Oh man, that looks awesome. He even visits one of those UFO cults. Shooting fish in a barrel.
  4. Righto admin.... Should residents of East Dulwich object to such a school being in their neighbourhood given it's radical opinions on various topics? Given the large number of devout Christians of various denominations (some more, and I choose my words carefully, radical than others) up the road in Peckham should they have schools provided for them. It's private so no state funding is being given to it. Horses for courses?

  6. If I add someone to my "Buddy list" aside from them being very lucky what benefits does it have?
  7. *wanders in wearing best Village People cowboy outfit* *realises it's not that sort of bar* *wanders back out - but not before admiring a young ladies hot-pants and wondering if he could fit into them*
  8. Good grief, who allows these morons a teaching license. A biology teacher proclaiming creationism!?! They should be ashamed. I fear, however, there is little we can do. And what's worse, if they begin to get good league table placings expect parents to be converting quick smart.

Or Afghanistan for that matter. I know what your saying Keef but it's a lazy argument I get a bit tired of hearing. Nothing personal. The reasons for the Iraq invasion were more complicated than "for oil". Asset is correct in asserting that we were responsible for enough atrocities of our own in Southern Africa without deploying troops there now to remove Mugabe. The image of a former colonial power going back with it's white soldiers and removing a black leader from power would play straight into Mugabe's hands. I think other posters have already said that Mbeki (a spineless man if ever there was one) is the regional power and could be doing a whole lot more. In this case though, I think diplomacy rather than military muscle might win the day...eventually.

  11. Holy cow! Safin has done it. The two-time Grand Slam champion has dumped one of the pre-tournament favourites out of the tournament. Djokovic was beaten in straight sets comfortably. Unbeleivable scenes on centre court.
  12. Agnostic then?
  13. Well for those interested, a shock is on the cards in the men's singles. Marat Safin is two sets to love up on world no 3 Djokovic and playing out of his skin. It's looking like a classic.
  14. And many people who claim to have seen God also happen to suffer from epilepsy. Not that there is any conclusion to be drawn from that. No. None at all.
  15. You're more than welcome. And bonne chance.
  16. I believe one of the reasons for the demise of hats (in East Dulwich, as well as Britain, to keep on topic) was the Cold War. The Russians wore hats. Russians = bad guys. We stop wearing hats. Us = good guys. That and fashion. And global warming. It's too hot for hats now. Except panamas. Which are made in Ecuador. Nice photo btw.
  17. I think what Mamora Man was getting at was that some people see atheism almost as a religion in itself due to the almost "fundamentalist" nature of some of its supporters (Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchins etc) whilst other people would view atheism as an entirely rational thought process compared to the jingoistic, superstitiousness nonsense of organised religion. I'll let you decide for yourself, Kel.
  18. The CAB say the following: Basically you can tell Tesco to whistle for their money unless their willing to go to court over it. A strongly worded letter outlining your position (i.e. why you didn't commit an offense, long time Tesco customer, bad public relations, never shop here again etc etc) should do the trick. See here for more details
  19. Has anyone ever used Dialaphone? They're the ones with the ads in most tabloid papers offering phones on contract with free Wii's or in the offer I'm interested in, a free Playstation3. It seems too good to be true but would be interested to see if anyone has had success with them. I could do with a new package. Does it work as an upgrade or do you have to be a new customer? Could I cancel one contract and start a new one?
  20. I did read something related to privately issued tickets that basically says as long as they don't clamp you it's nigh on impossible to take you to court over if you refuse to pay. I'll see if I can find it.
  21. Garnier ft. Davina McCall. "Nutrisse means nourish". "...even yours Mum" Grrrr.
  22. Hmmm, well I'm not sure I'd describe the debate between science and religion as nonsense or unhelpful but I'll let it slide for now. Indeed atheism is a standpoint. "It brings prejudice" - well I suppose it dismisses vast swathes of belief systems belonging to billions of people. I guess it's down to the individual atheist as to whether they pre-judge these people as barmy or naive or deluded. I disagree that being an atheist effects how I experience reality unless you mean that some people would blame a tornado on the wrath of God whereas I'd think it was a freak weather system. My reality is the same as someone of devout faith.
  23. Yes, my foot went down this crevice on Saturday. Fortunately I was wearing my crampons at the time and managed, with the aid of my ice axe to pull myself clear. I resolved to look where I was going a bit more carefully in future.

Do you mean the laws of science? I'm not sure they've ever made me feel comfortable (in fact some bits of science scare the bejesus out of me, if you pardon the pun) and I can't help but live by them - one just does. > And Bovril doesn?t come in tins. http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/2/1/8/2/2/9/webimg/130020300_tp.jpg Next you'll be claiming MAry was a virgin! ;-)
  25. How can atheism have morality? I mean, plenty of atheists are morally good people, but without a codified belief system I'm not sure how these people you know can use it as such. You can be fundamentally sure that god does not exist but that doesn't mean you act in a morally opposite way to those of religious persuasion.
