They wouldn't really say "this is a full-time position due to our 24 hour poor service" :)

or maybe ....

Surely the government has to make an example out of Southern. Despite woeful service, labour relations, and customer satisfaction, they are guaranteed profits each year. Not only that, but they have gone up year after year, despite requiring large government subsidies to run.

I'm nervous. Southern's new timetable page is on their website, here.

Here's the new map, colour coded to indicate changes.

Timetable #32 (the Beckenham route) suggests that no trains will start/terminate at Beckenham, but that trains servicing West Norwood, Crystal Palace and Gypsy Hill will continue in to Victoria

No service between London Bridge and Beckenham Junction

Please use alternative Southern, Tramlink, London Overground and Southeastern services to complete your journey. Southern tickets will also be accepted on local buses between West Norwood and Tulse Hill and between Crystal Palace, Birkbeck and Beckenham Junction.

Timetable #33 (the West Croydon route) suggests that the same trains will run as they have done in recent months

There is no posted timetable for the Wimbledon route (at least, not that I can find). The timetable page states:

No service between Sutton and Streatham via Wimbledon (this service normally operates during the peak only)

Tickets will be accepted on Thameslink services to and from London Blackfriars which will operate to a normal Monday to Friday timetable. Change at Streatham for alternative Southern services to London Bridge.

The inference I'm making here is that we will be down to two trains per hour - those to/from West Croydon. That would be a drastic reduction in service. Their journey planner isn't going to be updated until tomorrow, so until then we're reliant upon digging the info out ourselves.

That being the case, the new commuter services into London Bridge would be as follows:

from North Dulwich: 6:53, 7:27, 8:27, 9:28

from East Dulwich: 6:55, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30

from Peckham Rye: 6:58, 7:33, 8:33, 9:34

There is also an additional service which terminates at South Bermondsey: NDW 7:57, EDW 8:02, PMR 8:09

Notice that some of those services allow extra time between NDW and EDW than they used to (up to five minutes) and between EDW and PMR (up to seven minutes)

The services back home from London Bridge would depart LBG at:

16:10, 16:40, 17:11, 18:08, 18:51.

Yes, you've read that right, basically one train an hour. The off-peak service is actually more frequent than the peak service.

Someone please tell me I'm mistaken.

    • Dear families,   My name is Eleanor. I’ve worked in NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services for the past eight years, and I’m about to begin an Infant Observation course in preparation for psychotherapy training. I’m looking for a baby to observe as part of this training.   The observation involves me visiting a baby and their parent for one hour a week over two years, with the aim of deepening my understanding of early emotional and developmental processes. Taking part is a generous contribution to the training of future child psychotherapists — ultimately supporting the mental health of children and families.   Both of my own children were observed as babies, which I found to be a really positive experience. Having an observer gently witness my babies’ development helped me notice their weekly changes in a new way, and I came to appreciate the calm, consistent presence of a trained observer. I was sad when the observations ended!   If you — or someone you know — is expecting a baby due before the end of February*, I would love to hear from you. You can contact me at +44 7977 910018 or [email protected].   Best wishes, Eleanor
    • I rarely iron, so my massive ironing board is just taking up unnecessary space. Does anyone have one of those little ones that you can use on an ordinary table?
    • It's happened twice today, I've never had this happen before! Here's the second one. All I did was try to agree with a post in the lounge!
    • Now I'm having my hand slapped by some forum bot 😮 All I did was try to add a laughing emoji to ianr's post. This is obviously a message from the universe to tell me to get off my phone and get back to working my way through my very lengthy to do list 🤣 ETA: And it's just happened again when I tried to agree with a post in the lounge. OK universe, I give in. Back to the hideous task list.
