I'm sorry, I don't know the year, Louisa.

Here's the text that goes with the photos. A film buff could work it out.

> Professional gloss photographs of the Pavilion (later Odeon) cinema in Grove Vale, East Dulwich, south east London, by John Maltby (official photographers for Odeon Theatres, Ltd.), whose name and stamp appear on the reverse. Approximately 7 x 5 high quality finish. Exterior with the films Elephant Boy (Sabu) and Charge of The Light Brigade (Errol Flynn & Olivia de Havilland) and interior view taken from the balcony showing the wide proscenium arch and illuminated house tabs with distinctive cylindrical light feature to one side.

Where the new flats are next to the school. I remember going there as a kid in the sixties, in the early 70s it was turned over to a religious sect and called the Palace of Peace. The so-called guru turned out to be a charlatan (No surprise there), spending money on women and Rolls Royces etc etc, after that it was offices for a while before being demolished at an estimated guess about 8 to ten years ago.
I think the pent-up demand for a cinema is not quite as feverish as it was for a butchers before William Rose arrived, but it might not be far off. But the only buildings/sites I would have thought suitable candidates have been put to other uses (the gym near Thomas More Hall and Foxton's being the sites I had in mind)
I had a business meeting there many years ago when I was managing a business development grant. They imported, personalised and distributed watches, etc. Quite nice having a meeting 5 minutes walk from home, rather than a thousand miles away for a change.

Have to say I disagree with you re. the Rolls Royces. I saw the said 'Guru' a couple of weeks ago in the NEC in Birmingham and one thing he happened to mention were the stories about all his cars which existed years ago i.e the 70's

He went on to say that if he did have that number of cars he was supposed to have he wouldn't have chosen Rolls!

As for the women, when he went to the Palace of Peace he would have been a teenager. He is now nearly 50. In the interests of honesty I don't believe he can be accused of being a charlatan either.

My word your gullible aren't you. You don't seriously believe all that crap do you.

I once went in the Palace of Peace with a friend of mine. We were very stoned and a couple of "disciples" came up to us and said "oh you're the chosen ones....come and have something to eat/drink....blah blah blah..." Silly f**king hippies.

You insult me for what exactly? You went somewhere once, very stoned and met some hippies? Thirty years later I'm gullible and believe in crap. Maybe I'm both but you sure as hell don't know. Talk to you when you grow up.

now now boys, chill out. everyone's entitled to their opinions, being called gullible is not exactly an insult.

Personally think the Divine Light lot a load of twaddle. Anyone that keeps their so called "knowledge" a secret until they deem you are "ready", well - not very enlightened is it? Jesus handed his out to any one that would listen, as did Mohammed and Buddah.

    • I had to renew my licence - took photocopy of my current licence and also my renewal application and posted everything off. Within 10 days received my new licence. My old licence was due to run out in January so I submitted the renewal early December.
    • I cannot remember who ran/organised the original ED LETS. They had meetings at the ED Community Centre every so often. I think there were about 20 - 25 people involved.
    • That looks consistent with what I saw when I checked a few weeks ago, after someone raised a fresh thread asking about the progress.  I was about to post here asking if anyone could help with what seemed a bit of  a  mystery.  The planning register didn't show the application as decided.  I couldn't find any minutes of the committee meeting that James reported on last year, or any mention in any other minutes of the application.  The meeting was itself  flagged in the meetings schedule as MOVED (presumably to another date).   Incidentally, I remember one of the atttached planning documents being a report on the financial prospects then pertaining.  As far as I understood and remember it seemed to show the construction for sale of the buildings a ? poor prospect for the investment.  I'm no expert though.
    • Hi sue  so this year I think I fed them a tomato food but only probably three to four times in the summer  don't over water them  I put mine outdoors in about march depending on the weather as long as there's not going to be any frost and bring them back indoors September october-ish or when I think the frost is coming
