The Best Bar in East Dulwich 2007 award - discussion

Recommended Posts

Shortly our local Landlords will be polishing their pumps and telling their staff to be on their best behaviour as it's almost time for the people to vote for the Best Bar in East Dulwich 2007. The Black Cherry won last year and they are still proudly displaying their trophy behind the bar. This year, considering we have a lot more users to the site, there'll be a lot more panache and desire attached to this prestigious award.

I'm mentioning it in the Lounge initially as I want to check that I have all the bars in East Dulwich on my list and I know people in here like a drink or two. Please note that as much as I would like to include close-by places such as the Gowlett and the George Canning I'm afraid they are out the area and I have to draw the line somewhere. Here's the list:

Franklins

Green & Blue

Inside 72

Liquorish

The Bishop

The Black Cherry

The Castle

The Clock House

The Crystal Palace Tavern (CPT)

The Drum

The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT)

The Forest Hill Tavern (FHT)

The Harvester

The Herne

The Palmerston

The Magdala

The Plough

The Vale

Uplands

Are there any pubs/bars missing? The voting will probably start next week and run for two weeks.

Oh, and the reason it's the "best bar" and not the "best pub or bar" is because it's too tight to fit it on the trophy plaque. And all pubs have a bar.

I was hinking about this, and have a suggestion, although it's probably to much of a pain to sort out.

Rather than just having one vote, how about everyone votes for their top 2 or 3, with their number one getting 3 points, number ywo, 2 points, and number three 1 point. Would be interesting to see how that came out in the wash.

NOTE: You could do 2 votes, giving 3 and 1 points like in the footy.

ANOTHER NOTE: You could just ignore my meddling and stick to the normal vote.

Hoopers

28 Ivanhoe Road, East Dulwich, London, SE5 8DH

May be its last chance as next year it is likely to be entered in the 'Best block of flats' competition...

Clockhouse.

It's got an SE22 postcode so that makes it East Dulwich.

It's a pub. not a bar though. But in the pub there is a bar.

And Laurence the new landlord is gorgeous.

Has to be said.

So please include that as I am not voting for any others.

So there.

    • I remember seeing something a few years ago on TV about a fox that was actually biting through people's shopping / takeaway food bags.  It was situated in an alleyway.  Not in London.  Very interesting in how the  urban foxes brain development has  been affected by their surroundings.   Not an exact quote from Darwin.  It's the adaptable that survive / not the strongest or the most intelligent.   I would be worried if a fox came close me.   Because they might be after my fur babies and they carry a lot of nasties.   Although they look beautiful from a distance or on a 🎄 card.
    • Driving down Lordship lane around 2.45pm today saw a v sick looking fox walking in and out of the crowd.
    • I know I'm a bit premature but don't want to forget through too much Chrisntas cheer! Southwark Council Christmas trees recycling arrangements 2025 - bit worrying for the future that they're emphasising the free bit. "We’ll collect and recycle your real Christmas tree for free!  Trees should not be taller than 5ft. You should chop any taller trees into smaller pieces. Remove all decorations and the pot or stand and recycle it by: putting your tree with your garden waste containers on collection day requesting a free collection if you do not have a garden waste collection  taking it to our Reuse and Recycling Centre [43 Devon Street, SE15 1AL open 08:30-16:30 Mon-Sun] If you live in a flat you must leave the tree: outside on the kerb visible for the collection crew not in a bin store" I'll add the link to the collection booking service when it opens on 22 December.
    • Most homes in East Dulwich / Good Green ward have collections on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. So no changes for them this year.  But for those few local homes with collections normally on Thursdays or Friday, with Christmas, Boxing day happening on Thursday and Friday any blue, brown or green bin collections will be delayed by two days. So Thursday 25 December collections will be on Saturday 27 December and Friday 26 December collections on Sunday 28 December. For New Years day those Thursday collections will be on the Friday 2 January and those with normal collections of Fridays that will be on Saturday 3 January. To double check when your Southwark Council rubbish, recycling, food waste, garden waste collections will be taking place please please check here - https://services.southwark.gov.uk/bins/lookup
