Pizza Express - Dulwich Village (what's it like?)

Has anyone been? I know PE are a chain but was interested to know what this one was like. I love Dulwich village and want an excuse to go back!

It's a fairly standard Pizza Express. There's not an awful lot to say. If you want child-free then avoid it on weekends. If you want to take the kids, get there early (I think they open at noon) otherwise the high chairs will all be taken.

I love it personally! Few pints over the road then in for a pizza and wine - bingo!

Try and stay downstairs, I think the foods good for what it is.

The great thing about this PE is that the waiters are Italian and full of character!

It's just like any other Pizza Express only it's in the Village, which is a very nice place to be. Best to go in the evening to avoid the tiny tots.

Yeah I thought it looked like a nice place to have nice meal and polish it off with a few pints in the pub opposite!

On the few times I have been there I have found it extremely off puttingly noisy.

I find most pizza expresses have those loud, echoy acoustics.

They do serve a purpose though. i.e. When you are out in town, need a drunken feed and the girls you are with wont stoop to Burger King.

It's quite small for a PE but the staff are very friendly and pizzas as good as any other branch. My tummy is rumbling at the thought.

Went there one Sunday with Mrs Keef's nephew... It was hell on earth with a hangover, but have to say they were absolutely lovely with kids!

It's certainly the best restaurant the Village has to offer - shamefully

Pizza Express can really hit a spot an one of the best evenings I had with Lady Mac was in this very one

But whilst it may be sound advice to the child-averse to avoid weekend daytimes, take it from me, week days are no guarantee. The single most hellish experience ever was on a cold winter's day off with a mate - we went in and it was a scene worse than Mrs Doubtfire. It looked as if every au pair and yummy mummy was in the place with minimum 3 kids each... That was 5 years ago and I still haven't recovered

It is full of kids at most times.

I like it, waiters are nice and the food as someone else said, is as good as any other PE if not better.

All PEs are noisy, the sound resounds off the marble tables something awful.

Sean, They're doing two pizza's for ?4.50 at the Cooperative. You could save yourself a hell of a lot of money.

I agree. I've eaten in lots of PEs over the years, but this is the one I've never been tempted to go back to due to the horrendous and annoying noise from children. I've never experienced it to such an extent in any other PE, but I guess its location makes it very family orientated, and I think it was early on a Sunday evening when I went.

My advice is to take ear plugs, just in case.

Also don't go there the afternoon the private schools break up. You can imagine the 'Oh My Gods' and 'OK yahs'

I must admit Pizza Express is usually a little cringe-worthy and the food a bit predictable, but then the village isn't really my thing. Think I'll nip down to the co-op....
