I was thinking about this the other day. I was hungover (quel suprise) and needed my usual hangover cure, when I suddenly realised that there was no Mc Toilet around here.

I have to say, that is quite impressive.

I have been travelling in China and found that even in the remotest parts, there was always the reassuring Golden Arches. It was the only place you could order food with a menu in English!

Maybe Gourmet Burger Kitchen can start offering a cheap, processed, spam-like McD-style burger on their menu? Seems like there would be some takers for it.

HonaloochieB - what about a Wendy's? I used to love those when I was a nipper. Can't remember if they had real crockery though.

There is a Wimpy in Sydenham, I went in there a while back quite excited, but I felt quite disappointed after I'd eaten... MacD's beef burgers are crap, but they are doing some good chicken at the moment!

I wouldn't say GBK do bad quality food, but I have been there twice, and both times left feeling very bloated, but totally unimpressed, and been over ?20 poorer.

Just McDonalds or any of the fast food places?

And to just call them evil without backing up the statement is a bit of an easy and tired pot-shot isn't it?

(although I'm probably on your side in the argument you understand ;-) )

PS great name by the way

i agree mcdonalds is evil and is junk food!!! they try and suck our kids in with free toys and proccessed food. and why would you want to buy food from someone over the counter who cant even look you in the eye as you know they are doing all sorts of unmentionables to your mcdog burger!

    • Hi  I might have an electric keyboard for sale. Do you still need one?
    • Just had another look at the council website on fireworks and asb. Looks like they have now handed misuse of fireworks to police, at least those in public spaces (page last updated 25th November 2025): https://www.southwark.gov.uk/public-health-and-safety/community-safety/antisocial-and-threatening-behaviour/misuse-fireworks I'm sure it used to be under the council antisocial behaviour team. There is still a link to the antisocial behaviour reporting form though. Southwark's noise nuisance page still mentions fireworks at night between 11pm and 7am with exceptions for certain events, so clearly some confusing and inconsistent advice going on: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/public-health-and-safety/community-safety/noise-and-nuisance
    • > Was the penguin there? I like the penguin. I like the way he clacks his beak No, none of the others.  Peregrine was in fact the only one I had time for.  Maybe something about him of a proto-Victor Meldrew, or maybe a hint of Gilbert Harding?  The only other one of whom I remember anything is the iirc rather tiresome Katy the Kangaroo. The Annette Mills WikiP article I found interesting.  If you branch out from there you may eventually get to the 'official site' https://www.muffinthemule.co . Your browser might provide a small frisson if you take the necessary Advanced entry route to the latter, with warnings of possible danger if you proceed further.  In fact apparently nothing more than an expired certificate.
    • Commiserations, hope you feel a lot better soon. Nasty things going around, it seems, it's an absolute pain when you can't do anything.
