So,s he,s been aquitted and thats the law of the land, but I still can,t make my mind up on this one, espicially following on from todays comments that he couldn,t have shot Ms Dando, as he was stalking another woman at that time. I know a lot has been made of his low intellect but it just makes one wonder that he,s doing himself no favours in trying to alleviate any lingering suspicion by comments such as these. Any views?

Seems a perfectly reasonable alibi.Surely no self-respecting Stalker can do a Professional job on 2 people at the same time..and as he was busy stalking a "person unknown" that would exonerate him as far as I'm concerned.

In fact he could approach the person who he is really stalking and ask them if they would not mind terribly veryifying his story.Sure they won't mind.

Case Dismissed! Next!

I can't believe he did it, not proven is as good as guilty, it assumes you have committed the crime but there is not enough evidence against you for a conviction. Mind you all Scots are guilty in my opinion.

I think this is another case of the Police taking the easy way out. A clearly very inadequate individual with little ability to challenge them and their authority. Look at all the other cases, Birmingham six, that poor woman accused of killing her babies, when they were cot deaths and subsequently killed herself after she was freed. Christ, if we still had the death penalty, what then?

All you read about it points to a professional killing, the question is why, and of course who. There are loads of rumours, but unless the Police actually investigate the crime properly we?ll never know.

What do peopel think about Scotland Yard's head of homicide statement:

"Commander Simon Foy, head of Scotland Yard's homicide and serious crime command, said: "We are disappointed by today's verdict but especially disappointed for Jill's family and friends. However, we respect the decision of the court." "

Sounded a bit defensive and inappropriate to me. Why didn't he just say "Barry George is still guilty in my eyes. Bloody do-gooders. It's political correctness gone MAD I tell thee!"

I agree with you Oldie, I don't think he did it either given the information about him. He was an easy target.

Professional hit from the way it was done. Maybe something to do with Crimewatch although why? Also I read she had received critical letters regarding her support for the Kosovans at the time but again, why bother with her?

His convition always seemed iffy. This was a ruthless and seemingly planned execution style murder which took place in daylight. Given George's health and alleged general inability to organise his life it never seemed likely he would have the nous to pull it off.

A weird bloke and a nuisance, certainly but a killer, I don't think so.

I agree with tony.suburbs the alibi of "it couldnt of been me gov, i was stalking someone else at the time" hardly makes me want to have this bloke back in society although take on board that this individual is rather complex etc etc... how do people feel about his compensation claim? i accept the man has lost 8 years of his life and there has been a miscarriage of justice but possibly half million? i read somewhere that the formula takes into account loss of earnings and emotional distress etc... i'd like to know what he did for a living....

Dunno what he did for a living but if I had done 8 years inside for murder that I did not do I would want a darn site more than ?500k. Have you ever been inside a prison? Dunno which one he was in but I have been in Pentonville and the Scrubs (professionally, not as an inmate) and they are fooking horrible places!

I always thought it a little too convenient that they arrested the local weirdo for this one. I guess we will never know the truth though.

There was also ?250,000 being talked about. The final figure may well be in between the two. Or it may not. Speculating about it at this stage seems pointless. Doing 8 years inside for a crime you've not done must be unimaginable.

Regardless of what he might have earned in the time, he deserves compensation for what he went through.

Still he's obviously started to seek charitable donations from the News Of The World and Sky TV.

Good to see Rupert Murdoch doing his bit.

In the trade it is called, being framed, fitted up, put any sap in to release us to nick motorists and cigar butt droppers.

I remember having a conversation about this case when they stated they had found 'a loner' and Barry George fell into the hands of the police and from that moment he was gonna be 'it'.

Conveniently forgetting that one third of the population live alone, and are 'loners'.

He was a simple mark who had no help from any source except his solicitor, but he is not mentioned, why(?)

Is this another case where the solicitor and/or court is unfit for purpose(?)

British justice in this case, and most of the cases that Charles Dickens wrote about

from Pickwick Papers to Bleak House, just stinks.

    • I’ve read the thread, but no one on the thread has authority over the noticeboards. There must be something written somewhere spelling out the purpose of them;  if they’re not serving that purpose maybe the purpose should change.  I’m interested, not because I have a business which I wish to advertise, but because I’ve seen noticeboards elsewhere that have a richer more reflective feel maybe a bit like a physical manifestation of the What’s on on section of this forum.
    • There has already been pages of discussion about this. Please read the whole thread if you haven't already. These are community notice boards and not for the use of  local commercial businesses. I need this to be quite clear before I spend  time on it, because if they are to be used for commercial purposes then I am not willing to be involved at all, and shan't be speaking to Monica
    • It is worth trying even if you fail. If you appeal they normally stop the clock on the increased fine (check that’s this case with this one). Sounds like you had acted reasonably and in good faith. Unfortunately that doesn’t always cut it. There is advice online about appealing them.
    • A few weeks ago I parked in the parking space at the lordship lane end of Matham Grove.  It is free to park there for 30 mins but you have to register on the pay by phone app.  For which you pay a 20p admin fee - which is outrageous in itself. Anyway I put it on the app and was gone no longer than 10 minutes. When I came back I found a warden issuing a ticket.  I said that I had registered but when I opened the app there was just a wheel going round so there was a glitch with the app. The warden said that he had seen me leave my car so agreed I had not been longer than the allocated free time and did not warrant a ticket, but said he could not take the ticket back once issued but that our conversation was on record and I should appeal. so I did. I provided a photo of the app with the screen going around and which had timings on it.  My appeal has been rejected. Because I had not paid for parking which is free!!! to add to the confusion the 30 mins free parking sign had fallen off - see attached photo of the sign on both sides of Matham grove.    What I would like to know is do you think I should appeal the fine or pay the £55 fine now before it doubles??
