I was in the Thai Corner Cafe a few weeks ago and noticed that they charge 50p for a glass of tap water, understand that they have a right to charge but 50p is bit steep.

I think any restaurants that charge for tap water should donate it to water charities like they do at Banners in Crouch End.

Think it's gone downhill as well, any other decent local Thai restaurants other than Sema on LL?

Did you buy a glass while you were in there? Or did you you just notice it?

A few weeks ago? Took a little while to get riled up about it, perhaps? It happens.

Banners, eh? Crouch End is it?

I had an unfortunate experience in Crouch End, once.

And coincidentally the drink that was thrown in my face may have contained some tap water.

Uncanny.

I like Lombok in Herne Hill. Food is on the spicy side and it's a bit more expensive than TCC, but they have some unusual (I'm told authentic) dishes like fish and banana curry which sounds a bit odd but really worked.

Good point Loz, there were several 'Spas' around the area including one near the Grove (Harvester) which was Dulwich Spa I think, there was also Beulah Spa and Sydenham Wells. I'll be looking at my old maps tomorrow.

to be fair, being a BYO, they miss out on the stratospheric mark up most restaurants put on wine and the profitability that goes with it - so they put a big mark up on the tap water instead - the mark up might be huge, but ultimately 50 pence isn't going to break the bank

"This isn't just any tap water, it's ED tapwater". *with albatross playing in the background*

    • Not so fast @malumbu. This is not a nothing to see here moment (and for some of us on the forum it is local as her house is in Dulwich)- the BBC explain why, have a read: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvgkvd3jg2no Southwark's role in this will be key - did they alert her, will they fine her (as they have done with other private landlords), was it someone in Southwark who leaked it? This government came in on a ticket of integrity and this type of thing is very damaging to that message - especially in light of other similar issues Starmer's front-bench has had - it cannot be one rule for them and one rule for us. @Dulwichway you know you're in political trouble when videos like that appear within hours of a story breaking.....and goes viral.
