Likewise - although, since I've done 13 of the 15 (and just haven't tried 7 or 8), it's probably no surprise I'm single :-$

1 as long as I can loosen the nuts, should be ok with tyre change

2 definitely

3 shleves... at a push with the right kit (hhmmm.. that might include a handy strong male friend to help me)

4 definitely, don't even need a BBQ, just give me a woodland on a dry day and some matches

5 fuses, no probs

6/7/8 no way

9 nappies - piece of piss

10 nope, got audio visual set up blindness

11. fish yup and can gut it too

12. tent.. easier with two (and more fun)

13. bikes/punctures... might need the little leaflet that comes with the repair kit, so I guess that's a no

14. Build a flatpack wardrobe... Yup

Drink a yard of ale... charliecharlie's a light weight on the booze front, so no

Important to remember that the thread says "could you do"

If my life depended on it, could, but I would rather find Rosie's man with the tool belt

though even he seems to need the manual

Hmm, think I'm on about 6 out of 15 - I'd better work on it before I can call myself a real man.

David Carnellski, are you saying you wouldn't change your own baby's nappy? If so shame on you. Charliecharlie was quite right - it really is a piece of piss...

Moos.... Being able to do something and admitting it are two different things.

I suspect that when that time comes, like most men, I'll muck in and get my hands dirty (so to speak).

But don't even think about giving me something with safety pins... Two holes in a baby for fluids to come from are plenty.

;-)

1. Change a car tyre - Never driven, so never done it. Can't see it being that difficult though.

4. Light and use a manual 'old school' BBQ (no gas allowed) - Easy, gas is for winmps!

5. Replace a faulty fuse and reset the fusebox - Have to do this all the time in our building, think whoever done the wireing was a bit rubbish!

That gives me a girlie score of 6 definites, but if I add ones I'm pretty confident about, I'd go as far as 11, and being that I can't drive, I feel vindicated.

I can fully restring a guitar pretty quickly if that helps? :-S

4. Light and use a manual 'old school' BBQ (no gas allowed) - Do disposable ones count? At midnight?

5. Replace a faulty fuse and reset the fusebox - No

6. Finish a curry hotter than a Madras (no fluids allowed) - I'd give it a go, have been eating like a horse lately.

7. Erect a fence (that will withstand a decent stiff breeze) - Post and rail's my specialty! (Oh, and I had to drive a tractor as well for that)

8. Hitch up a caravan to a car then reverse it round a corner - No

9. Change a nappy - Have done once, but am no longer allowed!

10. Set up an HD TV with Surround, DVD Player and Stereo out of the box - Erm....

Well of course you can. You're from the Southern Hemisphere. In fact all you should need to cook a few steaks is some wood, the grill from an old ford and a couple of half bricks.

... if they get dirty you're getting it really wrong!!

Learnt to do 1. when sent on car maintenance course as a teenager (my dad had some weird ideas) - when I had a flat tyre last year was scuppered by the clip holding my spare wheel in (to be fair had just completed a night shift as well!).

2 & 12 did when a brownie/guide - doesn't everything come with plugs already these days?!

6 & 12 wouldn't want to do either - even a medium spicy curry has my lips tingling in a bad way.

3, 4 & 7 I've helped with and feel confident I'd be able to do (agree with Sean on the partition wall front).

8 - nope.

9. Am sure I've done more than some parents!

10. Would need to wuss out and use the manual!

13. Know the theory (pop it in a bucket of water and locate the bubbles) - is there then sandpaper involved?!

14. No, but did put together an iron framed double bed on my own - does this count?!

15. Er.... could I try a yard of shandy?

    • Hello I am developing an interest in birds, and am enjoying listening to their singing especially in the morning and when I'm out and about.  I have bought a book about British birds, very detailed with info on each species.  I have managed to identify a couple of birds I've seen or heard around this area, but my starting knowledge of what birds exist here is very limited.  Is anyone knowledgeable able to cite some birds that exist around East Dulwich that I may be able to look up in my book and thereafter try to spot / listen out for?  Thanks!
    • Hi everyone, I am a local tutor that has worked in an independent school for many years and have been responsible for the 4+ and 7+ assessments - so I know how they work from the inside! The 4+ assessments are especially competitive and the most unknown of all the school entrance assessments. I can help support your application by offering tutoring or a one off practise assessment to help identify what your child needs to work on.  I am happy to answer any questions you have about the assessments or anything specific about how your child will perform on the day. I am familiar with the expectations for Alleyn's, JAGs and St Dunstan's as well as the central London schools like Westminster and City.  I have helped many parents go through the process with their child - including my own son!  Send me a message to find out more!
    • Unfortunately, lovely as it is, it wouldn't be a suitable venue for the forum drinks. Not enough space for people to mingle and get to know each other,  and it would get in the way of other customers. Upstairs at the EDT has  comfy seating,   lots of space and is quiet on a Wednesday night, so we will stay there, if the managers let us! The next drinks aren't arranged yet, but will be in September. We had a break in August as so many people are away.
    • Rod (07739180197) has recently completed the restoration of our garden paths and the rebuilding of our damaged front step. He carefully reset the pathway stones, applied new grout, and sealed them, leaving the surfaces looking as good as new. We had assumed we would need to replace the front step entirely, as our neighbour did, but Rod’s skill and attention to detail have restored it beautifully. I cannot recommend Rod highly enough. He is reliable, punctual, and carries out his work with great care and professionalism. It is clear that he takes real pride in delivering high-quality results.
