Most people here would probably agree with you.The Problem is that there are very few actual 'Local Businesses' Businesses' owned by Local people in ED.Most are outsiders coming to ED for the Rich Pickings.Places like Franco Manca is not a Local Business. Its a chain...It's not just a question of supporting Local Businesses. ?Local Businesses should be supporting Local People by providing what the whole of the local community 'Needs'and not what a small minority of the local community 'Wants'Do you see the difference. ?DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54673-the-patchthe-magthe-lordship/page/2/#findComment-825827 Share on other sites
AlexC
Anyway, ignoring the usual negativity that crops up in these sort of threads, getting back on topic - anyone know anything credible about what's going on? DuncanW
This venue could/should definitely work. Especially with the new cinema.I liked it when they had the curved booth seats, served pizzas and showed the football, but maybe that was just me. jimbo1964
I went to the Peckham Refreshment Rooms on Sunday. The food in there is delicious and reasonably priced (?5 starters and?10 main courses). Marry that model with a good bar and you could have a winner. Jah Lush
I'm praying that Late Knights Brewery take it over. Beer Rebellion in Gipsy Hill is easily my favourite bar right now. (There is another one at Queens Road, Peckham that I haven't been to yet) They have a superb selection of ales, burgers and finger food is a fiver a pop. If they were to take it over I'm sure they'd make a success of it.http://www.lateknightsbrewery.co.uk/bars.html Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54673-the-patchthe-magthe-lordship/page/2/#findComment-826019 Share on other sites
jimbo1964
Agreed Jah. That's is the perfect scenario. That would get the punters in. reds
All three of the local Late Knights bars are excellent and would love one in East Dulwich. no chance of them taking over the Mag though. They go for small shop units and would want freehold. Jah Lush
Reds, they have ventured out and have bigger premises in Brighton and Ramsgate and are soon to be taking over the Alexandria pub in Penge once planning permission goes through. So fingers crossed. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54673-the-patchthe-magthe-lordship/page/2/#findComment-826196 Share on other sites

DulwichFox
There was some activity earlier in the week.. Just looked like they were clearing out all the junk and old furniture.. I'm sure we will all know as soon as something is planned.. Then another 9 months before anything is likely to open. Not really bothered what happens to the place... staggydev
I would have made this my local if there was any beer in the taps that wasn't stale. A lovely building, and if they made something out of it the punters would definitely come. DulwichFox
The problem is that in more recent times, past 4 - 5 years people did not frequent the place. Each subsequent 're-furb' seemed to make the place less appealing. The last attempt at re-inventing the place did not live up to expectations. That's exactly the problem isn't it... a large, empty, uninviting space. At least some sort of chain would probably have the know-how and experience to make the place feel a bit more warm and welcoming.
