Padlocks On The Cherry Tree Pub

Wetherspoons were quite interested - Tim Martin, founder of Wetherspoons, even visited The Cherry Tree.

However Wetherspoons decided the cost of conversion was too much and withdrew their offer. Great shame!

I was told the owner had gone to the Golden Lion in Sydenham on a temporary basis but in accordance with such temporary agreement has now left.

The Golden Lion is well known for it's Sat. night Music Blues/Jazz and I believe a Thurs. night Film Club..

Dread to think what may become of that if the Cherry Tree owner takes over.

Golden Lion is a lovely pub, which seems to do pretty well. Really really hope they are nowhere near the place!

No, I tried to find the most notorious thread to put a link up here (I think that was the one where the poor manager who came in after that badly treated couple was talking to himself at one point, in two different forum guises, not to mention the Cherry Tree's various socks all posting) but it's apparently been zapped - so I guess the Crushed and Devalued one has as well :(

I believe they're opening another bar in Sydenham. I was at their last karaoke night two weeks ago and it was know that they were moving (I get some f/bk updates from DJ).

Am I right in believing the Cherry Tree Owners once owned / ran the Magdala .. 70's ??

When it was decorated as a cave and had a DJ in the middle of the floor in the back room.

Anyone remember. ??
