I would just like to say that you provide an invaluable service to the residents of ED and possibly others, be it for light entertainment or practical information, and two weeks seems like a long time to be without it. On the outside it is difficult to know what exactly goes into running the forum. I for one have taken it for granted. I wonder if it didn't exist would there be a lot more adverts in newsagents windows or would we ever venture out to meet complete strangers. I've briefly met one through the forum but there must be many whose live's have been enhanced by the opportunities the forum offers by means of communicating information to like minded people(or not as the case may be).

Now that I've said my bit have a great holiday and before you go please explain why you deleted a post of mine recently.....the one I asked you about.

Honestly, them York lot, they can't keep resisting having the electric put in.

Get them told while you're up there Simon.

Have a lovely break. I must admit I take the forum for granted and did not think about it being such a 'full on' responsibility (which of course it is now I have thought about it!). It really is appreciated.

Thank you. Have a great rest.

I can fully understand that you need a break from active monitoring of the forum, but it does contain very useful information within it which members have exchanged - telephone numbers etc. as well as, e.g. useful 'official' feedback from people such as the excellent Station Manager and so on. Is there no way the forum can be 'locked up' - so that there are no further transactions enabled on it, until your return, while still giving us access to read past posts? The reason why it's locked can of course be given so that readers realise why it's inactive pro-tem but the (actually quite numerous) pearls amidst the dross can still be made available.

Just a thought, but I would welcome being able to refer back to some of what's contained in the forum.

Yes but we won't, there could be something on here amid the "dross" that opens up a can of worms when we're all having a break. We really don't want that.

It'll be back up on the 2nd November.

I only noticed this at the top of the page this morning and, although I have only been viewing for a little over a year, I am really going to miss the forum.

However, life must go on, you have to have a holiday without worrying what is going on back home

Have a great time. See you soon

Happy Holidays Admin, as a girl who was checking her email using my iphone whilst on holiday I fully support your decision, though I will miss the forum MASSIVELY.....have a really wonderful break, and I will be counting down the days (probably minutes actually) until your return!

Molly

It's going to be very odd without the forum. Just yesterday my neighbours were photographed and interviewed about using local services/tradespeople (for an article in the Telegraph - due in a couple of weeks I think) and they cited the East Dulwich Forum as being the place that's made it possible. Have a great holiday. You will be missed!

Seeing as there have been a lot of posts on here saying they didn't realise how much hard work goes into the forum I thought I'd point out that there's a very small donate button at the bottom of the pages! I'm only saying it because I didn't notice it until someone else pointed it out.

Have a great break

Hi Mark, Will private messages still be available for those die hard forum fans, will there be a 'special' room?

The forum and everything that goes with it must be very tricky to control these days having so many registered users. I still pop my head in now and again and am amazed at how many new people come on.

Well done though to you and your team for the continued effort. (tu)

blimey... you must be exhausted Mark... you deserve a break but just make sure you don't get scratched by that palm leaf!

    • Sorry, not having a dig at Southwark for that.   I'm just shocked that next door they've chosen to abandon such an institutional community / family event so they can keep pumping out commercial stuff instead.   I suppose the same could happen here next although we don't really have any longstanding family events like that one.
    • No doubt the schools in Harrogate are being discussed on the East Harrogate Forum or whatever. Dulwich College is being discussed because it's local. Saying "ooh, there were loads of schools mentioned" is a bit dismissive. It was Dulwich College that referred sex abuse allegations about pupils to the police and Dulwich College that used the spectre of the police to suppress dissent. 🤔
    • Hi, I was just wondering what experiences any of you have had in relation to an Independent Panel review relating to the Permanent Exclusion of a SEN child. 1. General experience Any experiences, positive or negative, in general? 2. Clerks Associates UK Any experience of this entity acting as an "independent clerk" to an Independent Review Panel in a matter involving a Permanent Exclusion of a SEN pupil, also involving discrimination under the Equality Act 2010. There is limited publicly available information with regards to this "independent clerk"; however, I can see from their Annual Report & Accounts at Companies House that they are a small, privately owned organisation.   I am very concerned that there is a clear and material risk that they are highly dependent for their revenues and cash flow from the business that they receive from the school and its parent Trust (which has 9 schools in total under its management) who have appointed them. I also note that the Trust has a material employee relations dispute with their staff over underpayment of maternity pay whilst materially increasing the salaries of the highest paid Trust executives and other highly paid staff (presumably the Head Teachers). https://southwarknews.co.uk/news/community/teachers-at-six-charter-schools-walk-out-in-first-of-four-strike-days-planned-for-this-month/ Given the current situation, we have no choice but to engage in this process of an Independent Panel Review; however, we are concerned as to various elements including this one which is a key role in providing independence. 3. Independent SEN expert We have the right to an independent SEN expert to review the matter and provide their opinion to the Independent Review Panel. The concept is that this person is supposedly acting "independently" and also solely in respect of the SEN elements of the matter. We do not however know who this person is, their experience or level of independence. The last information that I can find in the public domain about the effectiveness of an Independent SEN expert is a UK govt report from 2014 which portrays a very mixed experience for parents. Hence, we are seeking to understand if anyone has any more recent experience of an Independent SEN expert in relation to an Independent Panel Review. Many thanks for any thoughts that you have based on your experience. For reasons of confidentiality, it is perhaps better to send any replies to me directly. Many thanks
