Dulwich Community Council has made an award to provide a new centrepiece for the roundabout. There is a questionnaire attached to this posting with which you can let your thoughts be known on their suggestions. You can also pick one up in Healthmatters*, 47 Lordship Lane. Please note these must be returned to the council by 22 JUNE which is only a couple of days away.

*they also sell East Dulwich postcards

I remember many moons ago when i use to trip out of the edt, sitting on the roundabout with other people who use to trip out and we use to have a picnic,it would be so nice us the peeps of the edt about 1am with our light refreshments on the goose green roundabout making conversation and having a dance,i think they should have a theme every month on the roundabout,so 1 month we would have salsa and tequila, then southern comform and jazz,oh the memories of my mispent and oblivious 20s aahh

why do we have to have anything in the centre of the roundabout? I like it the way it is. The Council are asking for people to choose between a lamp post, a tree a sculpture or a signpost, though I notice they don't give the option of no change. Won't objects as suggested by the Council distract drivers when they should have all their focus on driving safely in that area?

I have suggested instead (idea passed on to me by a trader in Lordship Lane) that there could be solar powered (energy efficient) lighting fitted into the roundabout wall itself. It would not be intrusive as the other suggestions would be, and it would make the roundabout more visible at night and also, if done well, could be very attractive. I hope others wil support this idea in their comments to the Council to make sure it gets examined.

How about some sort of landmark. Not like the cat in Catford (god forbid), but maybe a sort of angel of East Dulwich, designed by a local artist. Also should get rid of the enormous arrows that are currently on the roundabout (isn't it obvious which way to go?)

Mrs AB would agree with Keef about the Narnia lamp though.

My parter thinks they should erect a statue of the Fat Boy of Peckham,

Channel 4 website says:

"The Fat Boy of Peckham, an obese child who eventually weighed over 40 stone, joined a freak show when his mother could no longer afford to feed him. At the Nottingham Goose Fair he met and married Leonie the Lion-faced Lady. They had several children who inherited neither of their parents' unusual characteristics."

He was a popular local celebrity and toured the UK with Chaplin apparently, led quite an interesting life all in all though died prematurely. Pretty un-PC but interesting nonetheless. But maybe he should be reserved a spot on Peckham Rye.

The roundabout looks really good today. Whoever maintains it is talented and deserves thanks.

If we have to despoil it, perhaps we could have a circular pissoir there to replace the Gents behind the tree on Goose Green. The pissoir would have no top or bottom so that those out of ED uniform (Cargo shorts and Birkenstocks) could be easily identified and pelted by outsitters at the EDT whilst otherwise occupied.

    • Personally can’t stand carpets however where I am renting has carpet in  bedroom and hall. Not great quality and certainly not cleaned. Was  in B & M recently and looking at carpet shampoo -wow got a can costing £2.99 to test.. No scrubbing as others seemed to imply. Spray, leave and poof - smells great, no dabbing or scrubbing and c leaving rubbish. First to admit is only temp solution but no need to hire carpet cleaner instantly  or pay for a company to come and deal with professionally. For 3/6 months happy to have used this - Have a carpet cleaner and in a month or so plan to use it.    Buy a steam cleaner for floors - not expensive - much better than mop and bucket and more hygienic all round. Can pick up second hand ones on e bay.
    • Is this a true story? What protein powder causes kidney damage? Why didn't you cite an article? I shop at H&B, mostly to buy their castor oil, however, I would recommend researching any product beforehand. They do have very informative articles on their website. To be honest, I don't see the point of this post. You could have just taken the product back for a refund or complained in store and in writing.
    • Well the Italian on Lordship Lane  recommended here was delicious.  Thank you so very much -my party were extremely pleased with ambience, location and lovely food plus puddings to die for. They are also on Deliveroo.  Will certainly be back when I am back in 6 weeks time. Went past Love Dulwich at lunchtime on my way to Italian - only a party of 2 - food might be excellent but decided to give it a miss - wasn’t impressed with manager who admitted he had only been there 2 weeks. Might be being totally unfair but doubt it, as no comments since about a month ago from Pugwash.
    • Thanks for the tip! I did a quick search and I’m thinking of grabbing a Bissell one. Looks like it’d be really handy for crumbs and pet hair without dragging the hoover out all the time — and especially at night when I don’t want to wake the kids 😅. For me the flat microfiber mops with the bottle attached has been game changing. No more lugging a bucket about, the thought would put me off at times
