  1. I don't think you're scaremongering. We allegedly went into Iraq and Afghanistan to protect our freedoms yet we have less freedom/liberty than pre 911 and I fear it will definitely get worse. It's not good enough to say if you've got nothing to hide then you've nothing to fear. We're already seeing many cases where this new legislation has convicted and persecuted innocent people on both sides of the pond and when you try and discuss this with anybody involved with forming this legislation, they just clam up and wrap it in a blanket called national security.
  2. When I have lived in places like South Acton, Harlesden and Ladbroke Grove virtually all mugging victims tended to be girls and elderly women and it was pretty common that they'd fall victim at least twice. East Dulwich seems to me to be generally very, very safe. The only people round here that I know of that have been mugged tend to be school children that have been targeted in West Dulwich because of their school uniform in the hope they'd be rich pickings. Most incidents were at the station or bus stops. Since the police upped their presence over a year ago I think things calmed down, but you're never going to eliminate it completely whilst there's a good chance that kids carry expensive phones, IPOD's etc. I've noticed many yellow boards over the years around the Barry Rd, Underhill Rd, Friern Rd area which involved guns and knives but not personally known any of the victims. I once bought a vegetable peeler in Green Cuisine. I guess technically I was mugged.
  3. Sean, life can be so unfair. Lordship Lane is a tough place, especially that patch outside Somerfields where all kinds of hazards are waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting. I've known life long ED residents who wince at the thought of standing there. But look at the positive side. At least you're not having to write a whinging thread about being run over by a buggy pushed by a stuttering nanny.
  4. Since my post above you I've been several times and it seems that they're well back on form. LouF are you visiting ED specifically for The Sea Cow or just a day trip to explore ED?
  5. Well done Spurs, although that was a very lucky deflection. I'm not bitter.
  6. Hope you have a blinder of a weekend PGC! Best wishes.
  7. Reading between the lines I suspect you really mean that you're feeling pretty blown away by the high quality Uncle Fred on show versus your WI offering. Besides, as you stated earlier only Alan the Master Baker can be the true judge. Here's my latest effort. A gluten free organic, multi-grain granary.
  8. I'm not the competitive type but here's one I baked earlier. Note the aesthetic shape and consistent golden crust (Honda Fireblade CBR1000RR in background for sense of scale).
  9. I was seriously considering buying a Panasonic WX255-GTI after reading about bread making on a previous thread. After seeing the efforts above, which bear no resemblance to a proper Louisa style Kingsmill or Sunblest loaf, I don't think I will. Why Alan *Bob*? How often does he Master Bake?
  10. Well it does look more loaf like and appetising than *Bob*'s 'It fell from outer space Boule'.
  11. For a 40% share of the compensation I'll back you up.
  12. Asset is that a pre 1990 mobile phone or a small farmhouse loaf?
  13. BB you need help. Call NHS Direct and get your patch prescription. (Naughty Hopeless Shopper)
  14. SF? Yes, when I occasionally pick up a book. Really enjoyed Look To Windward when I read it a few years ago. Soon after that I read Richard Morgan's Altered Carbon. One of the most gripping SF books I've read in years.
  15. I'm a thieving bastard! BG changed the meter 3 times at my last property and I received a bill showing a juicy ?500 credit. I queried it and they said it was correct. I pointed out that the meter changes were resetting to zero but they insisted it was correct. So I asked for a ?500 cheque which they sent and I promptly changed supplier to Atlantic Coal and Gas.
  16. Snorky, sorry a bit of thread here, but have you got short fat fingers or has somebody jumbled up the keys on your keyboard for a laugh? OB may well up the anti for some of our more established crap tat shops. They'll just have to be a bit more original than buying everything via Top Drawer every year.
  17. A definite (td) from me. It's so handy to park in Derwent Grove when I'm using ED Station or to park in Ashbourne Grove when shopping. Part of what makes LL a great road.
  18. His name is Francisco. Nice guy, good barber. I'll be paying him a visit soon. To get my hair cut.
  19. Finished of a wedding book layout. Met with my printer to review a job. Bravely picked up the phone and made an appointment with the dentist. Cycled to RAK studios in St.Johns Wood to see a client (and back). Hung two pictures in the living room that I'd been meaning to do for ages.
  20. There's a rather unfashionable clothes shop in Tooting called 'Taki Casuals'.
  21. That too.
  22. Unless your dog can read.
  23. When did British through and through start and when did it end? bring back the good old days when Britain was Roman through and through and the roads were well built and nice and straight.
  24. Sponsored by Foxtons and lit up with bright green spotlights.
  25. Perhaps the most environmentally sound solution would be Coke On Tap At Home
