  1. Did you take a note of the car and registration number and note his physical appearance / heigt build hair colour / accent / colour / clothing / distinguishing marks yourself, so that if anyone does now experience this you can say whether it was the same person or not.
  2. At what junctions were the signs you mention?
  3. Can I bring my dog?
  4. And also pay your taxes you self employed peeps by 31st Jan! Where's the meeting, Eric?
  5. "Travels with Macy" by the vet Bruce Fogle, father of Ben, who is married to Julia whatsit who was in Half a Sixpence and 50 yrs later the Esure ads with CalmDownDear Mr Winner. Anyway, this book was his attempt to travel around USA with his Labrador in an RV (recreational vehicle) following the footsteps of John Steinbeck and Travels with Charley. Bruce is neither a good writer nor a travel guide. I was very frustrated as he passed through towns without telling us anything about them let alone his views which may have been good or bad. He did talk about the environment, from the view of his gas guzzler, and his views on the way animals are treated in USA, but really the book was a cheap shot and had he not been who he was (married to or father of) I don't think he'd have had a chance of writing it! Deeply disappointed. Yet I have to recommend Looking for America by Ian Mutch. It is self published, has quite a few spelling errors, but so what, it is passionate, fascinating, and funny. And the second best USA travel guide book I have read after Mr Steinbeck's himself. Mr Mutch does it on his Harley.
  6. I seem to remember there were a lot of old roadsigns with hands pointing to the relevant road at the end of the wooden sign, sort of part of the carving, and these are in Dulwich village or roads pointing to it. My memory tells me that Souhtwark Council in its regular branding exercise all councils feel they need to do, were told good and proper by the locals to leave those old signs where they were, or else! So they may be worth visiting. Don't know if there's a sign for the signs though, so you'd best come and visit.
  7. ... The Surrendered Wife. The Old Testament The New Testament
  8. Saw it in at Dalston Heights and - although it was a bit misty - could still see the spectacular fireworks on the Eye! Drank lots of mulled wine with port, from the flasks, and had a lovely time. Award for something goes to the dogs on Dalston Heights who were totally non plussed by all the fireworks even those on the Heights themselves! Cool Dogs!
  9. Me and Mr Rose have half a job between us and that is my job. However, due to this forum Mr Rose is now getting a few good quality odd jobs so that things are ticking along a little. And I am training for another part time career in May. Soooo I will try not get the January blues because at least we don't have a mortgage and there are a lot of people worse off. Still, bloody cold though!
  10. Address your question to Recycling Jenny - or email the Council [email protected]. Edited to amend mistake outlined below! Thank you! Then again to make the email link work. Hmm.
  11. Home Secretary went shopping or visiting someone? Incident being, the someone was not in and she got angry.
  12. Agree about LCD. If you have a small home, plasma is not good as it needs air round it. We were also warned never to put a plasm screen above a fire place as it just might explode.... And they are only supposed to last about 5 years before the individual gas bits stop working efficiently.
  13. At least he's not on the PC all night. Watching crap on telly is - I think - preferable. Maybe only marginally though. (Edited to delete references to porn channels which made it look like I look at porn channels; I don't!)
  14. Oh I like you snorky. Great attitude. My washing machine's about to give up the ghost and I have only had 26 years out of it. Ditto tuner and (agh!) Turntable. But broadband and technology in general is a Great Thing. So what about BT Vision?
  15. I would be interested to read people's opinions on this one also and agree that Freeview and TopUpTV box (and their service) is shite. Thinking about BT Vision too.
  16. Roger Moore biography. No, seriously.
  17. Midwinter Greetings everyone!(damn us Humanists!)
  18. Carrot cake this morning, made with bananas walnuts and carrots and topped with cherries and walnuts. Now Half Gone! Incidentally, anyone ever seen plates with that pattern on?
  19. Just made a carrot cake for hubbie and guests this evening. And ate half of it. Now for the rest of the Merlot and by the time they arrive I won't care.
  20. cdonline writes: "The problem for me is that unlike other illnesses, it is not something that is living in you, a virus or a problem with the organs. for instance. It is often behaviours or that we display that are used to disgnose these conditiions." Medically trained CFS/ME expert are you? See my mate's words. She has it - ME, I don't. And there is a lot of half arsed half baked poor and dangerous and cruel opinion about the real things people suffer from, even from doctors. My mate spent a good couple of hours writing all the real factual information for people to learn from, above. And as you see from it she was a mental health professional herself. I know very little about ME, but she's taught me loads. RoseieH I hope your sister gets the best most informed care without hitting any of the negative nonsense out there, and in here. Edited as a result of Huguenot's and cdonline's PMs.
  21. That's not respect, that's fear.
  22. As promised, my friend who has this has spent a couple of hours writing the information for you (all) below. I hope you take comfort from it, learn from it, and follow up the links from it too. If you need any more advice or help and can't get it from the links then please PM me and I shall pass on your questions to her, though she doesn't want to be overwhelmed! East Dulwich Forum Posting: Some Facts On ME/CFS ? The medical profession now usually refer to ME as CFS ? Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The terms are however used interchangeably and it is commonly referred to as ME/CFS. ? ME/CFS is classified as a NEUROLOGICAL DISEASE (ID 10 G93.3) by the ICD ? The World Health Organization?s International Classification of Diseases. ? It is, however, acknowledged that it is also a multi systemic illness i.e. other body systems such as the endocrine and gastrointestinal are frequently involved. ? The illness affects all age groups, including children, different racial and ethnic groups, and all socio economic strata. ? In the UK the two major charities who both offer help and advice to people with ME/CFS and are involved in research are:- Afme ? Action for ME http://www.afme.org.uk/ ME Association - http://www.meassociation.org.uk/ The major organisation to gain an international perspective is: - The CFIDS Association of America - http://www.cfids.org/ - ? Co morbid depression can occur with ME/CFS. It is my opinion as a mental health professional also trained in CBT, that the depression which occurs in such people is as a consequence of coping with physical symptoms and the many related losses associated with the illness e.g. loss of role / employment / relationships etc. ? In August 2007 NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) issued a guideline for health professionals on the management of ME/CFS. http://www.nice.org.uk/Guidance/CG53 It recommends a ?one glove fits all? approach to treatment. It recommends only CBT - cognitive behavioural therapy and graded exercise therapy. Concerns about the validity and reliability of the research which this document is based on has been raised by all the major charities and the British Psychological Society. Two people with ME/CFS have just been granted leave in the High Court for a Judicial Review next year on the guidelines. The guideline also neglects the severely affected.25% of people with ME/CFS are totally bed / housebound. Prognosis ? most people will make some improvement over time but are unlikely to return to previous level of functioning.
  23. Thanks. That's helpful, helpful! I was given immobilise packets by local police. So that's yet another thing. As I said above you can register what you have immbolised on a website.
  24. It exists. My best friend has it. It's complicated but nasty. I shall ask her to PM you with various websites and forums. It is real. One thing my friend is not, is depressed, though it might piss her off mightily. It's not just medical thinking you need to read but the experiences of people who have it (real every day people from all walks of life - it does not choose a type or class of person to attack). But like many types of illnesses, some people are more easily diagnosed than others. A poor analogy is the idea that more black people are diagnosed as suffering mental illness than white people. Anyhow, I'll ask her to PM you. I hate to say this but a forum discussion on opinions about ME will not enlighten anyone as to the facts of the matter.
