Royal Mail Sorting Office Closure Meeting..
DulwichFox replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I was at last nights meeting. A Representative from the Communication Workers Union (Steve ??) was there. No one from Royal Mail was in attendance. Steve explained that there is no obligation from Royal Mail to be there and they were not obliged to have any consultation with local residents regarding the closure of the Silvester Rd Sorting Office. He explained that the current depot is not fit for purpose. The condition of the building is poor. Staff tolerate the conditions because of its location and relative ease of parking. There are no facilities for parking at the new depot which is situated at 2-4 Highshore Rd, London SE15 5AU Details here. https://www.bing.com/maps?&ty=18&q=Royal%20Mail%20London%20Greater%20London&ss=ypid.YN1029x10282755004842865760&ppois=51.4717788696289_-0.0709370002150536_Royal%20Mail_YN1029x10282755004842865760~&cp=51.471779~-0.070937&v=2&sV=1 It would seem that the Highshore Rd. site is already crowded so extra staff would make the situation worse. Travelling to Peckham will be of great inconvenience to all that need to collect undelivered mail. It was suggested that local residents need to write to Royal Mail. to express their disapproval or launch petitions. I cannot personally see any way that this decision can be turned around. The workers there were not allowed to talk about the proposals.. It is possible they too were kept very much in the dark about what was going on. I do not think the meeting will change anything. If the place is closing.. then it's closing. I suspect there are many property developers dying to get their hands on the site I still urge people to attend the meeting to show our disapproval of Royal Mail's decision to close this facility. Roundabout Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Surely people won?t attend ? If they use e-mail/s > instead of letters via the Royal Mail service + > on-line back statements ? etc-etc-etc. The sorting office always has a queue throughout the day so is a valuable asset to the area. Mainly for parcels as Pugwash pointed out. Foxy -
You may of received a leaflet about this from the Labour Party. Royal Mail is proposing to close the Sorting Office on Silvester Road in East Dulwich. This has been on the cards for a while now. If this were to happen East Dulwich residents would have to travel to central Peckham to pick up undelivered parcels, oversized letters and Recorded Delivery post. The meeting will take place at The East Dulwich Community Centre 46-50 Darrell Road, SE22 9NL on Tuesday 4th April at 7pm. In attendance will be Helen Hayes, Member of Parliament for Dulwich and West Norwood. Please come along and share your views on Royal Mails plans. DulwichFox

There was a programme on TV, Possible Rip Off Britain where they got Pound coins from several major banks.. There were many Fake coins from all of the banks. Some fakes are so good, the banks cannot detect them.. DulwichFox

What exactly is the problem with fake coins ? They get exchanged in Shops and Pubs.. Those sales are reflected in their accounts and Tax (VAT) is paid accordingly. Where does the Government lose Billions, ? Foxy

I used to use the Clock House in the mid 70's... .. when the big 'Regimental' guy had it.. Few pints and a King Edward Invincible cigar.. Then across the road to Bernard's French Restaurant for a Steak & Chips with Mushrooms and Petit Pois.. Those were the days when even I thought it was all the Bees Knees.. Even before anyone knew Bees had knees... Foxy

Both are far enough away not to qualify as my local.. Anything further than the G.G. roundabout is too far.. The sort of distance I would consider popping back home from if I had forgot something. Foxy

I feel you are trying to stir up trouble... I did go on opening night and despite a few niggles which were minor, I enjoyed my experience. The food was very good. A unique taste different to any other curry restaurant on Lordship Lane. The restaurant has been tastefully refurbished. and the tables laid out with fresh linen table cloths with great attention to detail. DulwichFox -

Snail gets home from school. His shell is all cracked. His mum asks him what happened to him ? He tells his mum he had been attacked by a tortoise. His mum asks him why he did not just run away. ? The young snail replied. "I don't know. It all happened so quick"

Had no idea what a "steak hache" was so had to Google it. Came back with 'A Posh Burger' from France. Not my words.. I suppose it can be made from any cut of meat. Funny enough I make my burgers from chopped / minced Rib-eye, and very good they are too. So inadvertently, I've been making 'Steak Hache' for years.. Foxy

All the Fox said was 'Snails Yuk' and then a bit of reasonable conversation until someone gets personal. You know who you are. Go away. I'm going to try Bonne Bouffe as soon as my mouth heals after a tooth (large molar) extraction. I can't chew that side yet and want to sample their steak. Otherwise it's Onion soup. DulwichFox
