Atila I once thought the same - but now find him one of the best broadcasters in the country with a with and intelligence beyond most other presenters. Plus, calling people fat as an insult isn't very nice

barry marshall - I was about to say that SMD video wasn't saucy enough - but as with many things in life it's worth persevering with I have a penchant for Nile Rodgers solo effort "Adventures In The Land Of The Good Groove" But spookily enough I'm listening to Danny Baker at the mo doing a show on exactly the same topic - he is of the opinion that he doesn't do dancing and I'm inclined to agree. It's best for everyone.

a different topic - but pertaining to across the pond still - (ie 9/11) Doris Lessing Tells It Like Is Is

to quote Colm Meany in "The Snapper" "dat's a good size" (actually it was a Cusack talking to a Meany now I think of it) Anyway - congrats to you both

Love the flute on that Jah They remain baffled why the song itself didn't do more business but there you go.... I'm keeping my powder dry for the Lips Christmas song

Councillors Support (Peckham) Station Initiative - But will they?
SeanMacGabhann replied to AllforNun's topic in The Lounge
That's a view - an equally valid one would be a west of Ireland farmer with a field full of nothing but rocks he could complain about how lush his neighbour's field is or he could spend a long long time without any apparant reward - and finally get a field full for fertile soil Or another comparison: A bank, let's call them Not Southern Soft Bank, who get themselves in fix. Pouring billions of our money in to fix THEIR problem is the lesser of two evils. We are spending billions to not even stay where we were - but compared to the possible oblivion which might happen otherwise.... -
You will probably describe this as sacrilige but I love this version of the same song - it's a slow-build Tindersticks - I've Been Loving You a Little Too Long

Are these back-of-a-fag-packet figures Maurice or can you back them up? Also your descriptions of various locations are subjective and I would argue these places are a big improvement on what was there before - ie the investment has had palpable improvement. The train station - if it were scrubbed sparkly clean and maintained that way for FREE - remains an eyesore. Are you saying it shouldn't be improved? What suggestions do you have? If not a penny was spent in Peckham over the last years there would have been zero negative impact upon your life in any shape size or form whatever and yet you bleat incessantly about all the waste. you would make an excellent box ticker I go to Peckham all of the time (my first visit was 89 or so) and if you can't see any positive difference in recent years you are wilfully ignoring it By the by - are you coming to the FHT drinks in November? We can all have a proper chat over a beer on the subject ;-) -
Seriously didn't know MP?? Flaming Lips made a big deal at a few gigs I went to - much missed and a great choice by blinder

Had a convo with CWALD yesterday and the same topic .. er... came up Needless to say I disagree on the premise - but CWALD also extends it to people she finds interesting (not just settled/well-off) Nothing to do with CWALD at all but I remember seeing a documentary in the early 90s where this 40 something woman berated the men she "tried" and why were they all lousy. Then they followed her to some well nasty club on the edge of the village full of desperate married people looking to cop off. She was asked if this was the sort of place she goes to and she looked at the camera and said "no, it's the place I always go to" Cause/effect???

Piers and Jah get an apology but Lady G and I don't? - harrumph ;-) Birmingham 3 - 1 Wigan (don't care how many goals - it'll be rubbish) Chelsea 2 - 1 Man City Man U 3 - 1 Boro Portsmouth 1 - 2 West Ham Reading 1 - 2 Newcastle Sunderland 2 - 1 Fulham Bolton 0 - 1 Villa Derby 1 - 3 Everton The Pool 2 - 2 Arse (no idea on this one - reluctant to call a win lest it bite me on the ass) Spurs 1 - 3 Blackburn

[in reply to Brendan] Not really (or should I say not intentionally) Allowing other people to do the same assumes that everyone has the same goals - Monbiot's article argues (correctly IMO) that the reality of that would mean a land-grab by the fittest who could then turn around and say "well, you had equal opportunity" assuming, in effect, power Anarchic societies (the theory as I understand it anyway) would not allow that level of autonomy by individuals This is all very simplistic but I'm quite scatty today and trying to multitask [edit after MP's post - I'd love to see that page rant ;-) ] I was drawn to the term libertarian on the back of Bill Hick's description of himself - but then I forget that was 15 years ago.. sighs....
-
Brendan, I think that if the premise came to pass (ie individuals not governments were in control) the the concept of "human rights" would be defunct. it would be dog-eat-dog, survival of the fittest - ie pretty much where we started as mammals before we discovered civilisation.

Nope - count me in on the CSCB as well

People seem obsessed with where their money "goes" - th ekey driver in this is not revenue but dissuasion. Don't get the bag don't pay the money and no-one gets your ill gotten gains... but the plastic stops ending up in a tree
-
This. This is what I think everytime some some nay-sayer is interviewed on TV about Olympics, Smoking Bans, Plastic Bag taxes or in fact ANYTHINGTHATMIGHTMAKETHEWORLDABETTERPLACE... You would think from the portrait of impending aramageddon some people are so quick to paint that these things had never been done anywhere in the world and that Britain was ONCE AGAIN the whipping boy for the rest of Europe..

doors are 7:45 so meet at 7 ish for a drink? Tillie mentioned she was keen on seeing Paul Foot so hopefully another punter
