  1. It wasn't covert surveillance, they were in a bloody police car. "Blow their operation"? What are you on? Some people really are stu...
  2. I'm kind of on the fence on this one. There could be a perfectly valid reason why it hasn't been fixed yet, and since most of us don't have off street parking, the guy has to leave it somewhere. But on the other hand, if he doesn't get it fixed in a timely fashion, then essentially it's just a useless piece of junk taking up precious space...

Seabag, your double-bluff is fooling nobody!
  5. Compulsory "confirm"/"cancel" replying for everyone registered with the SMS service?
  6. TBH anything over 6% is best drunk in halves. Slowly. But a very strong IPA can be very enjoyable in moderation... as can Belgian dubbels..
  7. But if anyone saw a van/driver matching that description, driving like a maniac in the area described, at the time given... then maybe we're onto something.
  8. I was also going to mention Masters Super Fish! I know Anchor and Hope is supposed to be great, but there has always been queues when I've tried to go, which is a bit of a turn-off for me. Maybe it's calmed down a bit? I found the food at the Young Vic bar very acceptable..
  9. I still like lager (at least the nice ones), but I think one of the reasons the craft beer thing has taken off is because it offers much more flavoursome beer, which is still approachable for lager drinkers. If you're already hard-wired to prefer flat lukewarm ale, then nobody's expceting you to change your mind!

    Otta is the hipster's hipster.
  11. Well, we are all becoming old. Probably faced with an old-school choice between lager and cask ale, I'd go for an ale every time. I just find a keg pale ale more refreshing. Can totally understand people thinking it's the emporers new clothes... but they're wrong (although the term "craft beer" is hardly going to last forever)

Seabag Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And "you lot" get to express yourselves/be successful It only gets my goat when it's not so much "expressing yourself", and more following a uniform and becoming a walking cliche. Not exclusive to these hipster types of course... I felt much the same way about most "tribes". Punk, casuals, metallers, "madchester", whatever.
  13. miga - it's probably not entirely accurate, but generally "craft beer" tends to be influenced by US style beers, and comes in keg (chilled/carbonated) as opposed to cask, so the nerdy CAMRA types look down on it. There is quite a lot of overlap though... some craft-style breweries offer their beers in cask, while some traditional breweries (eg Fullers) have beers influenced by the American craft style. To say that it is expensive is only partially true, some of the more common brands are widely available in supermarkets and carry a relatively small premium above bog standard beers. According to the article SJ posted a while back, it tends to be expensive in pubs because of a combination of: - Small production volumes - Keg beer being intrinsically more expensive than cask - Keg beer prices are inflated in pubs to subsidise the real ale, to keep the old boys happy
  14. Good and bad beers come in keg, cask, bottle and can...
  15. You're right, rrr, emphasis is of course on the cars to proceed with caution. But at the same time, pedestrians running out onto the crossing is clearly dangerous, and I think kford is suggesting this is what the flashing green man encourages.

  17. The article is 5 yrs old, and pre-dates the popularity of imported American craft beers.
  18. I know it's just supposed to be a bit of fun, but if I posted a list saying women should know how to bake a pie, clean an oven, hem a pair of trousers, drive the kids to school without crashing, etc then I would (probably quite rightly) get shouted down. If I was a religious man, I might quote "do to others as you would have them do to you."

I quite like that stuff, but it's really only suitable if you're staying for "just the one".
  20. Let me get this right, RPC... you find this list patronising to women?
  21. Or this... the most romantic song of all
  22. Could probably manage most of those, except the sports. I have a feeling if there was one for women, it wouldn't be too popular

  24. I like The Rake too. Just think it should be possible to serve interesting keg beers for a reasonable price (i.e. a fiver).
  25. Complete rubbish, RPC. Relationships don't always work out, it happens. It doesn't mean the parents haven't thought it through. It doesn't mean they were drunk when they conceived. It certainly doesn't mean the dad is guilty of rushing into things.
