  1. Maybe cos when you drink beer, you're drinking a lot of liquid because it's comparatively weak. So you don't get as dehydrated as you would if you drank two bottles of red.
  2. It's like Otta says... I don't think anybody has sympathy for the guy, the only reason mental helath is being discussed is that it has a direct impact on the sentence. I'm sure that even the most liberal amongst us would like to see him removed from society for longer than 21 years.
  3. What carnell said. I think the OP deserved a gentle ribbing. I mean, "are we nearer to Norwood, than Camberwell"... seriously...
  4. Basically - if you have an expensive phone, don't use it when you're walking alone unless it's essential.
  5. Bizarre post from "dumdum"... I looked round the school once, therefore I know more about it than you... However, the speculation by the OP seems rather inappropriate given that an investigation is in progress, and rather unprofessional (assuming they're still in the same line of work).
  6. It seems the Republicans are almost cutting off the nose to spite the face. I'm sure a deal will be struck, but I suspect the Democrats will be forced to make most of the concessions.
  7. Good summary, mockney. The US can't repay their loans, so they need to borrow more money. But the Republicans are pushing back, and there is a huge debate raging about the balance of spending cuts, taxation, and borrowing (similar to what we've seen in the UK and Europe). I'd be surprised if they didn't come to some sort of compromise, the repercussions for the US would be unthinkable. And yes, there would almost certainly be a huge impact to us, and probably the whole world.

Char siu buns are one of my favourites too. I'm pretty sure most dim-sum is just the same mass-produced frozen stuff, so it doesn't vary much from place to place. But that's not a problem when it's cheap and hits the spot.

    Virgin Media TV

The catch-up TV is useful, but it's worth mentioning that you don't need Virgin Media for that. You can use the BBC/ITV/Ch4/Ch5 on-demand services on a PS3, or even a basic PC connected to your TV.
  10. Where abouts is the dim sum place? Open evenings as well as lunchtime? What are the prices like?

You can have a debate about whether legalisation would improve the problem. But heroin is not the same as alcohol, Heinz's blunt analogy is a gross simplification. It is silly to suggest that a dealer is essentially doing the same job as an off license.
  12. I agree, Heinz's 'prohibition' remark was ridiculous.
  13. Foie gras isn't pate.
  14. Frankito Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Jeremy, I need some clarity on the meaning of 'snob'... Good question. Perhaps somebody who believes that their tastes or social values are inherently superior to others. Or somebody who believes that businesses in their area should only cater to a certain market. Examples on this thread might include posts such as "this will scupper our chances of a Waitrose", "it would be better suited to Peckham", and "I don't like tattoos therefore other people shouldn't get them". To echo your thoughts on a previous post, Frankito - not my cup of tea, but each to their own. I admire people who start their own business, and at least it would be something different, instead of another cafe, gift shop, etc.
  15. I hope the tattoo shop does open up, becomes a great success, and annoys the hell out of all these snobs.
  16. It's a hard one to call, but I'll say Chisora, as I think he's faced marginally better opposition.
  17. devilled kidneys + poached egg = best breakfast ever therefore : my breakfast > your breakfast

  19. I don't like either of them. Fury is a cumbersome, fat oaf. He talks shite, and has little in the way of skill. He's just tall. Chisora hits women and bites his opponents. But he's possibly the better boxer/athlete.
  20. Yep, an extra half hour of sleep is a pretty good reason for not going into work early...
  21. As I said on your other thread, I don't think there'd be much of a demand round here. Although I can't think of a reason why anyone would object to you setting up shop.
  22. Does anyone use this route regularly? Canada Water always used to be absolutely rammed any time between 8:15 and 8:50, you'd have to wait for several trains to pass before you could squeeze on.

To be honest I'd be surprised if that were true, although a foie gras pate/parfait/terrine might contain plenty of other stuff (e.g. pigs liver) as well as the FG. A piece of foie gras has a completely different taste and texture to regular liver. Served cold it is buttery and spreadable, served warm it is soft and melting.
