  1. I've started to use sparks instead of WR. The guys in the van are generally friendlier and seem not to mind being asked questions about their products provenance, cooking tips etc, where as I've always felt rushed in WR. In my experience the quality is better and as there's never more than 2 people in front of me at sparks it also means less of my saturday wasted in a queue. Sparks FTW.

  4. The castle pub divides opinion on this board only slightly less than the threat/promise of a tesco metro arriving in the area. It deals in very good guinness at an exceptional price. On the downside it is mostly patronised by what I assume are probably working class natives who have a tendency to drink away what they don't spend in one of the areas numerous bookmakers. It can get a bit noisy but there is rarely any trouble and any violence (rare!) is usually directed towards another pleb anyway. This end of CPR is good for the library, the park, the plough, buses, and local stores including a v good diy /plumbing store, a couple of friendly corner shops, badger bakers (old school, basic but decent i.e. No ?5 organic sourdough loaves or monmouth espresso here, it's more crusty rolls and coconut cheesecakes) but it's only a 10min stroll to northcross rd and LL for a more upmarket shopping/dining/drinking experience. You do have Le moulin on your doorstep. It's a bit of a throwback restaurant, some might say stuck in a timewarp, but at least one poster on here loves it. Have a search for it, try it out and let us know what you think. Good luck with the move.

Keef Wrote: > Why are cyclists getting so defensive on here, I > just do not get it! > Perhaps they are getting defensive because bad driving and threats towards them, be they verbal or physical, along with the attitude that 'all cyclists jump red lights/are dangerous/ etc' are an all too common occurence? Perhaps it's because more than one person has made light of and seen humour in this guy getting punched in the face? > However, everyone seems to think the cyclist was > within his rights to act like a total nutter > because he'd been wronged (not that anyone knows > that). Has anybody actually said that they think the cyclist was right in his behaviour? No. We have no idea what set off his attack on the bus. For all we know his riding partner could have been clipped by the bus and knocked over. He may have been trying to get the bus driver to stop fleeing the scene of an accident. On the other hand he simply may have just been a psycho with a particular distaste for buses. Anyway, here's a youtube clip for you http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QcAI8WFPIRI Sadly, this horrid individual's attitude is not a rare one. (that's not meant as a dig at you, Keef);-)
  7. What about a bus driver that cycles to the depot in the morning?

  9. I'm sure you're just trying to bait cyclists here so I'll just say yes, you are correct...blah blah blah, etc yawn.

Keef, if the cyclist had punched the bus driver I find it hard to imagine that many on here would say it was justifiable behaviour. Likewise, if you had then said you found it funny/smirked etc, I'd still class that as being unpleasant. Dulwich bloke, if you change "so many" to "a few" or "a minority" the I'd be inclined to agree with you. Otherwise you're talking out of your proverbial.
  11. Yes, bawdy-nan, it is very scary to be in such a situation - I just wish that the idiots who are unable to wait for a few seconds longer to get where they are going would realise this. I've reported incidents before - without any reg - and got the same response as you. I've also reported incidents with reg numbers, only to be sent a somewhat insipid response from the bus company assuring me that they would deal with the driver but "Unfortunately I am unable to disclose any information regarding interviews with our staff as this is a confidential issue between the employer and employee.". I'm investing in a camera to fix to my lid. I'm not sure how useful it will turn out to be but if nothing else it should make for some interesting youtube clips.
  12. I've been in a similar situation on more than one occasion i.e. impatient bus drivers unable to wait for a few seconds until I have cleared the space in front of them. The last time this happened was 2 weeks ago when a 37 driver overtook me and cut in front of me at a bus stop, forcing me onto the pavement. Fortunately for me I wasn't hurt and fortunately for the pedestrians I was forced towards, I managed to avoid hitting them. Unfortunately for the bus driver the whole incident was witnessed by the occupants of a police van. Keef, your attitude comes across as particularly unpleasant in this thread, despite your attempts at backtracking on what you said. Pathetic.
  13. Where did you hear this? Link to source available, please?

  15. Brendan, you can buy six-packs of the Heineken mini-keg cans from Sainsbury. Boomshank.
  16. I think we should let this thread die. Let's stop posting in it. Anyone agree?
  17. Also beware of the Crystal Palace Road / Goodrich Road crime hotspot: Dillip, the owner of the yellow shop on CPR was the victim of armed robbery, as was the owner of the (now closed down and converted to a house) newsagent on Goodrich, between CPR and Barry Road, both within the last 18 months. Say no more.
  18. Perhaps Dullitch IS the 176 driver mentioned in the thread and has seen the error of his ways but gone on the defensive as a way of dealing with the guilt.
  19. samstopit, British (not London) Transport Police should respond to any 999 call on train/bus/tube etc - these calls are routed through to the local police force. Either 8 years ago the policy on this was drastically different or you were fobbed off. (Or you're making the above event up, but I'm just throwing that in here for good measure). Did you not think about making a complaint?

I'm usually picked up by one of the private fleet and at a push might jump in a cab. On the very rare occasion that one does have to take PT, OMG! It literally is the dregs of society. Shocking, really. Can our MP not make this a priority issue?

Agree with you here, Sean, and you raise an intersting point re: 'accidents'. Police now refer to them as 'collisions' rather than accidents as generally they will find that somebody was at fault whether due to careless /drunk /impatient /arrogant driving and therefore cannot really be considered an accident.
  23. You've got to go to Eastney? Really? Ooooh, don't fancy your chances. D'ya have a stab-proof vest? It's proper rough around there, like. Worse than Camberwell and, to some extent, worse than Peckham :(
  24. I generally consider my taste to be impeccable and therefore feel no pangs of guilt about anything I like, that includes *shock horror*, drinking in The Castle, from time to time. May I suggest that you all leave your hang-ups at the door and continue with listing your very many pleasures.
