  1. Thank you for posting...I love donkeys! Ive now asked my OH to sponsor a Donkey for his 13th anniversary present to me...heaven knows I have enough perfume etc etc and the cost of sponsorship is incredibly reasonable!
  2. worn out battery in smoke detector
  3. I read this forum...
  4. agree shorditch or camden market. loads to do and see, or portobello road?
  5. If You only use essential oils usually (I too find that synthetic scents make me feel almost nauseous) My advice is to in future go to Niels Yard (theres a branch in Borough market)I get essential oils from there and either put them in one of the diffusers that they sell or on a lightbulb ring. Ive never liked the reed thing-Ive never found one that gives a pure enough aroma
  6. The noise scares me...I don't know if its because of what I associate it with (crime or terrible injury requiring air ambulance)but it always makes me feel really nervous! Theres been a helicopter circling near the Horniman museum for a while this afternoon probably connected

Anyone know of any alarms that > easily attach to the handle bars? this is so awful...What the hell are the police and local councillors doing about it? It is so very wrong that in a supposedly civilised society woman ( and men) risk having their hard worked for belongings snatched everytime they leave the bloody house? I lived in New York in the '80's and 90's in what was then the pretty rundown areas of soho and chelsea but I always felt safe even as a lone woman walking through the then deserted streets of downtown because there were plenty of cops relatively near and driving round the streets. government cuts in policing have given these thugs free reign
  8. oh no! another damn coffee shop? I love Mrs Robinson
  9. We stayed in a vintage airstream on the isle of wight 3 times Vintage vacations is the company they also have tiny eco homes and other cool buildings. they were brilliant

  13. I'm horrified to hear about the 30k rise in annual rent. thats an extra ?600 pw after all other overheads they need to find. Surely a landlord would rather have something in his retail space than an empty shop? That kind of hike on that kind of tenant is just greed and turns my stomach. no wonder our high streets are full of such c**p. My mother passed away in a hospice, those places are run by angels and to see some greasy pawed landowner trying to squeeze money out of a charity like that..just evil!
  14. They're going round offering to clear builders rubbish, cut trees etc etc then dumping the stuff and moving on. My neighbour had them offer to do some clearance for her, Its obviously what they do, move into an area and go door to door picking up cash jobs then moving on.
  15. To be honest a lot of charity shops are overpriced-I'm sorry to say this but I'Ve seen not very good condition blouses from chainstores being sold for more than a new one would be in Primark. The Red Cross Shop on London Road near Forest Hill station is fairly priced and clothes tend to be in good condition, The Sue Ryder store on the same side of the road next to sainsburys is also good. St Christophers hospice shops are pretty good, Mind on lordship Lane near Goose green is good and reasonable. These are the only charity shops I donate to because my feeling is, If I'm getting rid of good quality second hand clothes I want them to go to someone who wouldn't be a be to afford new. The trouble with Charity shop browsing is you need to go regularly-one day they can have rubbish, the next wonderful finds.

  18. I went there today at lunchtime and the heat in the gym wasn't too bad but what did strike me was how grubby the showers and toilets were in the ladies changing room. The showers were full of flies and smelt really dirty. Ive never seen it this bad before. this was in the ladies dry changing rooms.

Trying to plug your own business I suspect. In fact you sent me TWO private messages because you forgot to put the link to your 'cooked' site. If you want to promote your business please do so in the correct section on the forum. do not spam me with your advertising.

Whats more all the press items date from up to 5 years ago and still nothing has been done! at around 350k per bus its a joke!
  22. I very much feel we don't need another Coffee chain or resturant. What I think we DO need however that the site would be perfect for is a branch of Wholefoods or Planet Organic. I know we have SMBS which is very good but we do need a bigger offer with organic ready meal options, bakery and all that the whole foods and planet organic chain offers. At present we have to go to Clapham which is the nearest branch. I'm sure theres a market for this here. And it would do well
  23. Today for the second time in two weeks I had to get a number 12 bus home from Oxford Circus due to problems with the Jubilee Line. Both times the bus was hotter than Hades with no windows that open and no form of air conditioning or air cooling in evidence. What the hell is wrong with the design of these 'new' busses? Surely the whole idea of having sealed windows should be due to air cooling but Ive never seen any in evidence. Likewise back in February when I couldn't get the overground due to snow stopping the service i got on a 12 with no heating that was like spending 70 miniutes (I get off at Oxford Circus)In an ice cube. There has been a lot in the press about heat on the underground but I get the Jubilee line every day and at least the windows open each end of the carriage giving a semblance of breeze, and they do have fans. But trust me the number 12 is way hotter than the underground and I can't believe this hasn't been flagged by the press as this is a new state of the art bus that a lot of money has been spent on. bring back the old route master!

And the use of the word "PAD" ugh!!!! that really makes me want to heave. its the sort of word naff estate agents use and one I haven't seen used in any quality interiors publication since the 70's.

Growing up in Notting hill in the 60's there were loads go hippie communes. I have fond memories of them, My mother had friends in them and we often went to visit, They would often open their doors to the local community and invite them to share a meal (always brown rice based!) have musicians jamming. I find squatters now (because the communes were mainly squats) are destructive and disruptive. gone are the days of peace and love.
