  1. I would really recommend brining the turkey - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1340898/Heston-Blumenthals-Christmas-recipes-From-turkey-crisp-potatoes.html Since I discovered brining I can cook pork chops - it makes for moist and tender meat .
  2. Gentle iron from Health Matters on Lordship Lane are also much easier to tolerate than the iron tablets prescribed which can cause constipation . What rubbish treatment from your GP . Anemia can make you feel awful as you've discovered .
  3. James I'm sure you know as well as I do that that's not the extent of additional funding that Academies receive . Start up funding for instance ?
  4. This https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/244364/school_funding_reform_-_final_2013-14_arrangements.pdf is an interesting read . paragraphs 68 and 72 for instance refer to the differences and lack of transparency in the funding arrangements for maintained schools and Academies . I realise that getting more funding (though less recently than they did in the past ) will to some people make Harris Academies a no brainer of a choice for their children . But there is often the idea that sponsors shovelled in lots of their own money into Academies ,and the fact that they received more funding than maintained schools ignored and not taken into account .
  5. Duncan you do realise that it's not a level playing field when it comes to comparing Academies etc with old style maintained schools ? That the former received more money from central government ?
  6. Another question here - it's around the whole issue of heating one room versus the whole house . For myself I'm happy to just heat the one room but.....the scenario with my mother is ,in her 90's ,doesn't move around much ,lives alone in what is basically a 2 up ,2 down ,with a back extension kitchen ,never goes up stairs . I have been told to keep rads on upstairs to slow the escape of heat from downstairs ,kind of keep a cushion of hot air especially above the cold kitchen . My aim is NOT to keep her bills down ,but to keep her warm . What do people think ?
  7. Thanks Sanity Girl ,I'll look forward to checking it out .
  8. I picked up a few gifts from this site http://www.presentsformen.co.uk/christmas-gifts-and-gadgets-for-men-and-women-of-all-ages-deptgift_pg1/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=esp&utm_campaign=384+48+hour+offer And there's 15% off until Tomorrow ,Sunday ,with code AMAZING .
  9. sanity girl - the link doesn't give an address .Where is the Ortus exactly ? It looks lovely .
  10. I don't suppose this is any help but I have to take steroids orally sometimes and I find they affect my mood terribly . I know from other people that this isn't uncommon . Maybe just something to be aware of if you do have them . Good luck - sorry you find yourself in this position ,so hard weighing up what's best . Hope others with more relevant advice come along soon .
  11. Disabled access is a bit lacking . Problem for some I'm afraid .
  12. "But yes I hate to see over 20,000m2 of public land staying derelict waiting for thE NHS to sell it for private housing while we have a mounting shortage of schools places. " Is this really an accurate description of the situation ? I thought consultations had taken place and preferences expressed for a community health resource/presence/centre ? Goodness knows there's a need for that ,many elderly and people with chronic conditions fare badly visiting Kings with it's parking and transport problems and it's sheer busyness .
  13. I come from a family of 5 siblings ,two sets of twins ,all close in age . Growing up was a continual war zone and now we're all elderly the rifts and arguments continue . Depressing I know ,but par for the course with siblings I think .
  14. If The Charter expanded to a second school on the hospital site wouldn't that create more diversity ,than say it being another Harris Academy ?
  15. I appreciate your PM James but ( maybe I'm dense/naive ) don't understand why you didn't respond on the main thread re my question about sponsors other than Harris . Sorry if I'm committing some kind of faux pas .
  16. It'll be another Harris . I agree with those not wanting this ,but that's what it will be .
  17. I de registered mine online at Amazon . Which I know I should be bycotting .
  18. Would it be very rude to ask what you've selected ? Slow day in bed here with ongoing sickness and in need of distraction ,feel free to ignore !
  19. Just to add that metaclopromide takes at least 6 weeks ( professional advice and personal experience ,tho we're all different ) to become really effective . So don't despair if takes a while . Also rehydration drinks do help with some of the tiredness . Massive sympathies .
  20. Go to GP ,reseaerch safe anti emetics that are ok in pregnancy . Please dont suffer anymore than necessary - there are a lot of anti emetics ,some must be safe . Good luck ,I really feel for you . Plain /salty popcorn ? Dont forget rehydration powders ,Indepenedent chemists do a nice dissolavable tablet ,lemon one ,nicer than Diolaryte .
  21. It's close to 63 bus route which as mentioned will take you to Peckham ,great fun in it's own right ,and Peckham Rye railway with 12 min links to London Bridge ,Victoria etc . Peckham Rye park is lovely ,you're near good GP surgery in Forest Hill Rd - lots of keen ,caring trainee GP's . Plus Lordship Lane is not far . Go for it .
  22. I'd take it to a professional ,some suggestions up thread . We use a shop in Old Kent RD ,park in Lidls and cross road ,and walk up road away from Lidls .
