  1. I once wore socks with sandals. Gigirl - was it a walnut whip?
  2. Oh, goody, another word game thingy: Gooseberry!
  3. Still never worked out the equation; support for my team = hatred for others. Banter, yes, ribbing, yes, humour, yes please, but out and out nastiness? Yes, sure, I had a little laugh at Utd's capitulation this week, mainly because of the antics of Rooney and Ronaldo and the fact that it makes the season more interesting, but who cannot admire a team that play so much great football.
  4. looked like a cross went wrong at first - but an inch perfect curl, caressed into the net!
  5. Just something mellow as the cocoa and Baileys nightcap goes on the stove. Slippers?
  6. Glad to hear of your experience Northlondoner. I think ED has a pleasant friendly vibe and am therefore often piqued by the seemingly relntless threads that start off "I was the victim of appalling customer service in suchandsuch cafe and am outraged blah, blah....." Thanks for redressing the balance a little. For the record I went for Mother's Day dinner at the Plough - lovely atmosphere in there too.
  7. No, not that I can quite keep up with all this but Sean has his Righteous Avenger cape on and is putting to the sword each and every irritating pipsqueak who cannot or will not engage. Fight for this hallowed turf. Its like in the middle of the Wales Ireland game, some Jack Russels are let onto the pitch and left to run around snapping at the players ankles and nuts, occasionally pissing by the posts. Amusing, sure, but hey, some people are trying to concentrate on this thing with its own history, idiosyncaries, unwritten terms and mores.
  8. Yeah, Liverpool on fire and making it an exciting run-in to the title. Had managed somehow to avoid all results and comment all day Saturday and then watched TOTP....er MOTD on with a beer and a cocoa. Caould't stop smiling as Fulham ran the game in the first half. Utd were shambolic. Well done the Spurs. And did anyone else enjoy that Noble goal for West Ham?
  9. Finally ended up watching "In Bruges" this week, it having been sitting on my bookcase for ages in its Lovefilm packaging. A decent film. Really enjoyed the way the director juxtaposed the dark humour and the shocking violence with some stunning, brooding shots of Bruges. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson make a surprisingly good double act.
  10. Ha! HonaB, God (Admin) moves in mysterious ways.
  11. There you go again Georgia: falling down the stairs.
  12. ....eaten a Porterhouse Steak. ....suffered poor customer service in ED, no, not even in notorious stationery shop.
  13. Louisa, yep, I am in Customer Services of sorts, a big shot in the world of bending over backwards with a special line in mealy mouthed sucking up. Not.
  14. I think the notion of customer service is by and large a bit of a vanity. The shops are on to a hiding to nothing. Where some punters want to browse without being disturbed others want the shop assistants to be at their beck and call. Personally I dislike subservient service. It transforms the relationship into one purely about money. I'm being nice to you because I want your cash. Not I'm being nice to you because it is intrinsically right that I should be. The whole customer-is-always-right motto is plainly wrong. The customer is sometimes being a complete prang.
  15. Part of the problem is that people often don't view the viewer in the viewed. They walk into a shop as if they are neutral whereas in fact for the most part, I will dare to say, their interaction with the staff member is crucial. I reckon, 9 times out of 10, when a shop assistant is curt of indifferent it is down to the customer. I am not saying this is the case in every situation but just a thought.
  16. Last time we did all this I think Keef's missus was pretty much the furthest in the SW corner. There was virtually no a soul who dared cross the diagonal from top left to bottom right.
  17. Yes Moos, that's the one - but I don't fight girls so I claim it since I bagsed it first. But then, actually I don't fight boys either, not my cup of tea, so if you want it, it's yours. I'll just look on wistfully as you and yours sip Earl Grey in the Drawing Room.
  18. Real shame on Wenger, I agree. Struck me that whilst Barmby and others were berating the Ref at the end of the game, Phil Brown was on the pitch applauding the Hull fans. They'd travelled all the way down from Yorkshire (oh, all right, Humberside) on a Tuesday night and it was the least they deserved. Always feel that this is something chairman should made a big issue of - they should instruct their managers and players that a salute to the fans is something that should be done as a matter of course.
  19. Jah's your regular Bollinger kind of guy and, of course, drinks all round! I'm so kebabbed most the time that I act twice my age: dozing in the afternoons etc.
  20. "Post Office Tower" Marmora Man - showing your age there! But then, that's what I call it too.
  21. There is a lovely one overlooking Peckham Rye just down from the Barry Road junction. Its not the largest, but just always looks so appealing. I'm saving for it now - target date, July 2087.
  22. Sean, a beautiful spring day in ED, Arsenal winning, United losing, England putting France to the sword and then spurs beating the Villa. You know what it all adds up to: the probably is a God!
  23. Thanks, Annasfield, that made me laugh - who are they, that new comedy double act? Fair play to the utd fan - at least he has a little smile when his team are being stuffed. The 'pool fan looks queasy when his team go a goal down. Priceless
  24. I would much rather give money for someone to do nothing. Take off that silly wig, those ridiculous leggings, stop jogging round the park with a wheelbarrow or crazily pouring custard over your wacky best friend. You don't have to demean yourself. Just have an hoest whip round and I'll chip in.
  25. sorry to go back but, yes BN5's post was in support of some aspects of homeopathy. LRon "The homeopathy element of homeopathy treatment.....does not work. fact" I totally agree. But I also can't see how you could extract the homepathy element out of the homeopathy treatment. Sean: "many people who use homeopaths genuinely report feeling better. fact." BN5 invited us to make of that what you will. I think that is quite clear; homeopathy has worked for those people. The placebo effect is a phrase that has resonance here. I think the important word is not "placebo" but "effect"
