I think that you will need to apply to a private nursery if you want her to start April as the school ones seem to be taking children in September only. Otherwise just apply for a school nursery from the following September which gives you more time to think about it anyway? You could try magic moments creche, not used it BUT heard so many good things about it, short hours may suit too. Hope you get more replies, my experience with nurseries is just beginning as my little boy has just started, and for what it's worth, he loves it so far.

A guy on a business trip arrives at his hotel, is greeted by the doorman and, to his surprise, by a hulking great gorilla. The guy asks at the desk about the gorilla and is told that it has been there a few months, is quite safe and even talks a little. Sure enough, he sees other guests saying hello and the gorilla saying hello in return. He goes up to the gorilla and says hi, and holds out his hand. The doorman quickly stops him saying that, while the guests were welcome to make small talk with the gorilla, they were never to touch it. Ever. So the guy thinks fair enough, says goodbye and heads up to his room. Over the next few days he becomes increasingly friendly with the staff at the hotel, and with the gorilla, chatting about his day etc. His last day arrives and as he waits to check out he wanders over to the doorman and they chat a bit, then he says good day to the gorilla who nods and says hello. The guy thinks to himself, what could be the harm? I've been here a week and seen nothing to be afraid of.. So he touches the gorilla gently on the arm. The gorilla jumps into motion and starts chasing the guy around the reception area. Other guests are panicking and jumping out of the way, and the guy is desperately trying to find a way to shake the gorilla. He sprints out the front door and down the street, looks behind him to see the gorilla still chasing. He zigs and zags, bobs and weaves in and out of side streets and traffic trying to lose the massive beast. It's impossible. The gorilla is right behind him wherever he goes, in and out of shops, up and down stairs, through parks.. The guys is getting tired from the running so in a last ditch attempt to lose the gorilla he ducks into a narrow gap between a couple of buildings and hides. But the gorilla finds him and when he tries to escape out the the other end of the alley way he realises it's a dead end. The guy is backed up against the wall. The gorilla gets closer And closer And closer.. Reaches out towards the guy with one enormous arm.... And says Tag, you're it!

Book recommendations wanted: second baby on the way
Helen GV replied to amydown's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Someone told me ( after my second had already been born and introduced) that the best way to introduce your oldest to the baby is to have the baby in a cot or moses basket, not in your arms and not breast feeding, bring the oldest over and say this is so and so.. -

Labour - what to do with older siblings?
Helen GV replied to Adam's topic in The Family Room Discussion
She might not be allowed in, have you checked if it's even an option? -
The bugaboo chameleon goes pretty upright from memory? Or the microlite toro but if you have a long stride you may have to get the handle extenders.

Labour - what to do with older siblings?
Helen GV replied to Adam's topic in The Family Room Discussion
All I can add is NOT to rely on luck, get it organised and have far more people than you think you need. I went into labour a week early with my second child and both my brother and sister were away, hadn't thought I would need to plan more than that but in the end my husband looked after my little boy, an eventuality I knew was possible so was prepared for it but obviously not ideal! Try not to be shy about asking people as they will only be too happy to help, and three weeks is enough time to do some speedy familiarisation! Good luck -

Labour - what to do with older siblings?
Helen GV replied to Adam's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Make arrangements with friends if you have no family around. Make sure your daughter is around them a lot before the due date so if she wakes p in the morning and you are not there she won't freak out. Have a lot of people on stand by! Or have a home birth? There was a thread on this stared by Ruth so I'll see if I can find it. -
Single mum of teenage boy needs advice
Helen GV replied to hilili's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Don't know, but my mum always says that of someone calls you a (can't repeat it here), you either are , or you are not. If you are, do something about it, and if not then why worry. She has lots of these kinds of sayings... Obviously in the case of a 13 year old it is difficult to rationalise this kind of behaviour as it is so unfair. Perhaps remind him that they are young and don't know anything, also make sure he is doing lots of the stuff that he IS good at to remind him of his abilities and to keep his confidence up. I was bullied, punched in the throat once even and still only told my parents reluctantly, so fully understand that kids of this age may not want to talk about it (or even do anything about it as it makes it real) Good luck to you both! Edited to say that my husband suggested joining a football or boxing club, also to remind him that they wouldn't say it if they were alone, it's cowardly behaviour. -
The vibe has a little bag that sits half in half out of the shopping basket and can be used with or without the doubles seat attached, sold separately of course... Otherwise there are pannier bags you can get for the other models. I also use a backpack if I need to or just make my three year old walk and put stuff in the doubles seat! :0)

SB i'd like to see the new side by side too! Is it big enough for a toddler or a bit of a squeeze? Is it heavy? Not that I think I have the slightest chance of convincing hubby we need one...

Doing something you HATE because everyone else has scarpered to avoid doing it and then being told by one of the scarpees that you should do it better/differently..

Dinner ideas for tonight....please?!
Helen GV replied to SEGirl's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have had a look but can't remember the name of the thread on dinner ideas which Pickle started! It has been revived a couple of times so hopefully hasn't been archived.. -
I have a vibe and it's been fine, and there is a version two which is supposed to be better as they have addressed some of the problems people had with the first.

I think every buggy has it's problems,if not a phil and teds then a side by side, but then it's difficult for buses and shops, and heavy in any case with two kids plus stuff, or a tandem but if the toddler is in the front I imagine it would be hard to steer and difficult to get up kurbs..

I think we are having steak and chips with salad! I'll see if I can dig up a thread for you.. -
I think cyanide is detectable.. Like your idea Saffron, don't like my chances though. Would have to be law! First word was 'more'! Just after we had served the cake so takes after me at least :)) And that childminder is a saint! there were other witnesses too so I can't even pretend he was lying...

In this case it's just a bit of gentle ribbing, no malice (tu)

I've done most of the days, all of the nights, the colic, the nappies, the feeding and cleaning, and my little girl (12m) takes her first unaided step AND says her first word in the space of a day, when I am out of the room. Moan over. I am super proud, it's just that her daddy keeps reminding me...

Anyone know where I could buy one today??

Advice on whether I need a double pram
Helen GV replied to verds's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Perhaps get a buggy board and a sling? That way if your daughter needs the pram you can put newborn in the sling.. Or just get a cheap phil and teds just in case...
