  1. We seem to be leaning toward early August I think Micky-P. What does everyone else think?
  2. Yeah could I please! It's a subject that really facinates me.
  3. Oh sorry David. Beat me too it.
  4. Is that book about the theory that prior to the last ice age a relatively common form of indo-european language was spoken across Europe but then populations got isolated by the ice and the various sub groups (Germanic, Italic, Celtic etc) developed? Citizen. The Cadbury?s website says this about it: FLAKE 99 The real reason for "99" Flake being so called has been lost in the mists of time, but this is an extract from an article which appeared in a Cadbury works paper many years ago. At a recent Sales conference Mr Berry, a sales manager, told a story of how Flake became associated with ice cream and how "99" Flake came by its name. "When I first came north in 1928 I found that some of the Italian soft ice cream makers in County Durham were trying ways of introducing other lines to increase their sales, which in those days were largely in the form of sandwich wafers. The possibilities were obvious if we could get a suitable line, both in shape and size and texture - and the most promising was Flake, which at that time only sold as a 2d line, and therefore had to be cut with a knife to reduce its size." It proved very successful and its popularity quickly spread. After successive introductions of half penny and 1d Flake, both of which were sold with ice cream, the Sales Committee finally agreed to produce a special size to fit the sandwich and Mr Berry visited a number of Italian customers in the area. After this of course the cornet with the Flake placed temptingly in the top of the ice cream became very popular. In the days of the monarchy in Italy the King has a specially chosen guard consisting of 99 men, and subsequently anything really special or first class was known as "99" - and that his how "99" Flake came by its name.
  5. How about we make a list of pubs that we would really like to have en-route? For me the Gowlette, CPT and Drum rate highest with the Plough and George Canning coming in as strong contenders too. The rest I can take or leave. There is nowhere I won?t go.
  6. The Proto-Germanic route of the words Dutch and Deutsch just means People or The People. So the Dutch and Germans are just referring to themselves as The People. Although the Dutch do tend to call themselves Nederlanders. Which would be Lowlanders I suppose.
  7. Ah. But there is a difference between advice and instruction. Advice being something like, ?Do you really think it is a good idea to ride this down that after drinking all of those?? Whereas instruction is that fascist sat-nav woman telling me where to bloody turn. Perhaps we should let the gods decide this. We can get a map of ED with the pubs marked on it. Blindfold someone and get them to throw darts at the map. Then work out a route depending on where the darts land. If it works well we could suggest it to Gordon Brown as an aid to making policy decisions.
  8. I would council fewer pubs. Quality rather than quantity.
  9. Now I haven?t watched BB in a good few years but if that is how low they have stooped then they truly have scraped through the bottom of the barrel.
  10. Just did another photo which is 74% Cybil Shepherd and 70% David Hasselhoff. :-S

  12. Hmmmm, Does the Administrator type in Geordie?
  13. Right, this has been a floater on other threads for a while now and also the subject of few drunken conversations. You know those emphatically sincere conversations that turn up to haunt you in the cold light of day. None the less a few of you have already expressed your interest in an East Dulwich pub crawl this summer. It will be a chance to stroll our streets, take in the local scenery, the varied ambiances of our diverse watering holes and of course to partake in their produce. All are welcome, from those fresh-faced and new to this whole forum thing to those so far gone with the Forumitis they are reading this off their blueberry and about to walk into a lamp post. Now my inner anarchist is loath to bed down with such prohibitive concepts as when and where but I do think that we should decide on a date and a route in order to maximise our enjoyment of this little perambulation. It would be silly if we all did it on different days now wouldn?t it? So for those of you interested when would a good date be? I was thinking mid- late July? One last thing. The term Pub Crawl may be a bit misleading. You do not have to crawl from pub to pub unless you want to. Enjoyment will not by sullied by rules and your method of locomotion is entirely up to you*. Personally I recommend travelling by conga line. * No driving mind.
  14. It was a great idea and a great afternoon. Thanks everyone. Glad to see so many people made it to Bar Story. I would have come but at around 4pm I suddenly and inexplicably lost the power of intelligible speech and all sense of balance. Fair put the wind up me it did and I had to go home to a comforting Pizza and warm bed. It has subsequently been suggested that the bed is perhaps not the best place to leave uneaten pizza.
  15. Bradley?s Just off Oxford Street has one. Although it also smells like a public urinal in there since the smoking ban.
  16. There are plenty of McDonald?s a short walk away. There is also always the option of a long walk. Off a short pier perhaps?
  17. It?s a lovely day today isn?t it? What a wonderful world. Now get out there and enjoy it.
  18. I'm fit and ready. Even been in training me. Last night I downed a pint of Guinness.
  19. I think you're overworked and should go the fuck home.
  20. Yeah a bit.
