All Bar One is looking for ED home/Franklins organics in LL (Lounged)

Recommended Posts

I really don't like the idea of an AB1 in the area, mainly because I don't want the area to attract under-age and/or aggressive binge drinkers

Don't get ne wrong, I too am a binge drinker but am neither under-age or aggressive

I love this area and I'd hate to see it's charm, variety and saftey compromised because some faceless corporations seek to exploit ED disposable income

I hope people continue to support their local watering holes and food retailers

Agree with what you say there, but to be honest, there are plenty of binge drinkers and trouble makers in ED already. For one example look at the poor guy who got the crap beaten out of him on LL just a couple of weeks back.
All bar one is a star on a tv series called street wars, its very good it shows the lives of the average 20-30year old on a night out, and after having 30 pints a bacardi breezer and a grope with the local bike, they all gang up for a punch up. So if you want a good night of entertainment with a strong possibility of finishing up at the police or the hospital go to all bar one,the place to be seen in ,arrested and punched for no reason at all.

I seriously don't think you can blame the All bar one itself for that. The area in which it's based has a lot to do with it. There are plenty of places where 20-30 somethings can drink far too much and have a fight if they so chose to. I don't think the introduction of an All bar one will suddenly mean a whole new breed of thug flooding in to ED for a ruck! It would be more liely to be full of the estate agent types.

And Madworld74, what???

Agree with Keef, it's much more to do with the area.

I think the AB1 type tends to be relative newcomers to london who are still impressed with that sort of thing, I was no different at 21, but by my mid twenties I was a tad more discerning.

By my mid thirties I'm just a plain old snob ;-)

I used to go there regularly for Sunday lunch after a full-on night out around 89/90

I asked Mitchells and Butler (who own All Bar One) if there were any plans afoot to open an All Bar One in East Dulwich, i was told:

"I've just spoken to the director of All Bar One who tells me that there's no current plans."

I hear Heathrow Terminal 6 is going to use Lordship Lane as its main runway. Discuss.

Where the f- do these rumours come from then?

Seriously, who "invents" them?

Maybe my source isn't that reliable after all then. Or maybe everyone's just in denial kind of like football players are before they actually sign the big contract. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

By the way - did you know there's plans to open a needle exchange at the DMC in Crystal Palace Road?! ;-)

I very much doubt the owners of All Bar One would tell anyone that called them up to confirm or denie a potential business opportunity of theirs. But I could be wrong.

I think that this thread has missed one important point here ..and that is that ABO may be looking to open a site BUT... they may not open it as an ABO. ABO actually own the White Hart in Palace and the Phoenix in Denmark Hill station and many others without the ABO branding and associated culture.

Would have thought one such establishment might work on LL?

very true bejanminty, but the original post did say that All Bar One are looking for site here. Mitchells and Butler (who also have the Plough and the Crown & Greyhound) may be looking to open a Browns or an O'Neils but I didn't ask them that.

White Hart in Palace is really nice actually.

I second that. Friends of ours live just around the corner from the White Hart and it's our regular meeting place. Bags of character and, interestingly, seems to attract people from both the 'indigenous' Crystal Palace population and 'newcomers'.
Can't believe people whinge about these things. It is called PROGRESS. Good for the area and good for property prices. Would they rather the empty tire shop stayed there with netting all over it? All Bar One would be fine with me, but organic grocers is fine too. The next thing I would do is to demolish Somerfield or Iceland or both and put Waitrose or M&S in there. Doubt that place will be an All Bar One though - too small and Lordship Lane is pretty quiet at night.

    • There's quite a difference between going for a run around the footpaths and trying to sit quietly for an afternoon in a wide, grassy area and enjoying the peace & nature. The other two grassy areas in the park are used for sports, and both had barriered trackway running through them. The Parkrun had to be cancelled for at least three weeks, iirc. I'm concerned by your continued reference to "the rye" - the event is held in the park, not on the rye (common). There is a big difference, despite the organisers and council artificially amalgamating the whole area when trying to convince everyone that it's only a small area that is closed off. The railings & gates enclosing the park are a big clue...
    • So have you cancelled your contract with InPost / Yodel now? If so, that's probably caused hundreds of parcels to be stuck in limbo, as they've said to me before that they can't redirect them to a different store. I have a parcel that was refused by you twice, the last time on 5/12, and since then there's been no updates, despite me calling them 3 times. They just say it's being investigated, but if they now can't physically deliver to you then that is obviously the issue. So much for shopping for Christmas presents early, looks like I'll never get them now.
    • I thought I noticed the shop being redecorated the other day when I passed. Also the old Romeo Jones had some works going on, I think
    • Leon came to sort out a lighting issue for us last week.  He quickly diagnosed the problem and gave clear, detailed advice about how to avoid in future.  Would highly recommend him.
