Thought a warm upbeat thread may help us all procrastinate further this afternoon...

I've had a really lucky year with lots of good things coming my way. Mainly I fell in love and quit my job - both of which were unexpected yet set my life off in an even better direction that it was going in before.

Not been a brilliant year to be honest, but highlights are definitely getting engaged (even if I've barely seen her since..could you blame her), Nick and Keith's weddings (that's 2 weddings people, not to each other) and, not to sound to licky, but the friends I've made this year here.

The Marks, John, Bea, Mike, Ant, Spence and lots of other quality people too numerous to mention in one post, it's added a whole lot to living here.

Oh and CrystalClear finally getting himself a bloody girlfriend!!

The birth of my third son, Enzo.

My eldest son, Fabio, making me feel proud with his GCSE results.

Mrs LL's face when I gave her an eternity ring.

Discovering the EDF and all the benefits that come with membership.

Reading Alan Dales posts and feeling relieved I hadn't bought in Camberwell.

Stopping smoking, hopefully for good.

Discovering the joy of cycling.

The Plough reborn!

Until last week, sticking to my new yrs resolution has been fab - much fitter and almost 2 stone lighter - much thanks to GoodLiz!

But I'd have to say being proposed to on friday (thus again missing my chance to meet EDFer's) has to be this years highpoint, roll on march '09!!

Year started in Australia at a rock festival over new year, which was awesome, but coming home in January made it all a bit depressing to start off.

However, there have been some great times, including the Reading Festival in August.

However, My wedding day obviously wins by a million miles, and will be one of the best days of my life I am sure! (thanks Piers for the snaps).

Also making some great new friends, a lot of whom were from here, and some of whom even attended the wedding.

Oh, and playing guitar! >:D<

Getting to know lots of great people on the Forum - and making some good friends on the way.

Bizzarely being diagnosed with diabetes - at least now I know why I felt like shite and I now have a proper reason to eat sensibly, drink sensibly, get fitter and lose weight - 1 stone in 2 months and still going. Its amazing how galvanising consequences can be!

I had a play of mine put on in North London. None of you lot came, which I thought was a shame as you may have enjoyed it, but lots of people did and it got great reviews. It stressed me out greatly, was a huge nightmare (getting our leading man four days before opening night), but it was a huge personal achievement.

Also I got paid Equity Minimum not to work with Johnny Depp. No, seriously. But I only relate that true story when I am well drunk because it is also the worst thing that happened to me.

So that's the best things combined with one of the worst things that happened to me.

it was s mall ting but, somehow reigns supreme for me amongst some pretty hot events this year..I stood amazed at the window as my eldest (then just 5) swam a whole length of the training pool in crawl stroke at the beckenham spa. Although i'd been taking her to lessons everyweek, it was the first time I saw all the little skills come together and the kid swam.Like a dolphin.

oh, btw theres a very good team in there. The tall lady miss Sarka (sharka!) is the best. Dads, try not to stare, shes kinda cute too. Beckenham has a veru good team in that spa and its reasonable prices for lessons.

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
    • Signed, and I will share it elsewhere, thank you for posting this. It's got nearly 70,000 signatures at present, and apparently runs till February.
