toastED

We went there for lunch on Saturday.

Absolutely loved everything about it, and the food was amongst the most delicious I've ever had locally.

The courgette salad with lemon and capers and a bit of parsley was very simple but the ingredients perfectly balanced.

We will definitely be back once we've saved up more pennies.

Would have spent less had we not succumbed to two glasses of (very good value) wine each :)

We eat out a lot less often than we used to, and I'd rather spend my money on one meal here than two cheaper ones at most places elsewhere in ED.

The service was absolutely excellent as well - friendly but not in-your-face friendly.

ETA: And we paid the service charge with pleasure, having first double-checked that it went to staff.

I'm hoping to have lunch at toastED today but when I go to the website and click on the lunch menu, I just get a .pdf with blocks of grey and no text. Anyone else have this problem? (I'm using a Mac). I emailed them and the address on the website isn't working. It'd just be nice to browse the menu before I go along.
They had a tasting on last night that's why. I ate there lady night and it certainly redeemed itself in terms of service (despite being busy) and food. Excellent on both fronts. Imaginative menu and great wine list at all price points. would highly recommend it. Well done toasted for getting it right! Just what we need locally and a great buzz.
Went for the first time last night with the wife. It was packed - on a Wednesday! Glad we booked. We were both utterly impressed. Delicious, thought-provoking dishes. Excellent service. Really buzzy atmosphere. Good, affordable wine. We think that toastED precisely represents what ED needed in the way of a new eatery, and hope that it proves to be the catalyst for more, independent restaurants/restaurateurs to follow suit. Can't wait to return!
Popped in this morning for a double espresso and toast just before 9 and it was quiet. Very good coffee, a small bottle of chilled water, which was replaced when empty, and toast made from lovely crusty bread. Selection of excellent conserves came in little glass containers. It came to ?5.51, which means it won't be a daily visit, but everything was good quality and the service was really friendly.
We visited for dinner last Saturday and it gets a definite 10 out of 10 from us. The food was great, service great and house wines delicious and very reasonably priced. Overall, not the cheapest meal out on Lordship Lane, but (imho) worth every penny. And we took some house rose home at ?5.95 a bottle ? great value and delicious. In fact we wanted to book for tomorrow night, but sad to say they are currently only open Tuesdays to Saturdays?.

Just wanted to add my vote of confidence for ToastED. Popped in last night and had amongst some of the best tasting food I've ever had on LL - yum! The house wine was delicious too & we left with a cheeky take home swing top bottle which I'll definitely be returning for a refill.

It also has a great atmosphere - full & buzzy but not too loud with a very mixed crowd. The service was fab too - attentive but relaxed.

I think it's a great addition to Lordship Lane.

    • Staff have changed and owner now taking a more active role….she is such a nice+lady so I encourage you to try again . I am all for supporting local business and personally very glad after appalling service earlier this year Gail’s has closed.. Change of staff and chefs were unreal.. In one month alone must have had at least 4 new chefs plus god knows how many waiters/ waitresses.. when Ai saw that happening, new it was gonna be down hill all the way.

    • To be fair, a pot of tea for one in a department store is a small pot, and you only get one cup or mug!
    • I know - we have been here lots of times since it first opened,  which is why we were disappointed that it was closed at a time it was supposed to be open, but with no notice to say why! I guess we will just  have to ask the reason at our next visit, but I'm not sure we will risk Saturday lunchtime again unless we find the closure  was an unavoidable one off ....
