It's not that I've suddenly got an urge to bore ED with a travelog; it's just that I'm on my own and having a strange experience and for the sake of my sanity I need to share. I've been in California since the end of last year. Presently I'm driving from LA to San Fran to meet up with some friends for the weekend. I've checked into a hotel and I think I may have stumbled upon the campest place ever; Hotel Camp in Camp City on Planet Camp; otherwise known as The Madonna Inn, San Luis Obispo. Except that, and here's my point, they don't seem to know it. The entire place is pink (even the sugar is dyed pink) and, without any trace of irony, they just say ?well that's how we do things at the Madonna Inn?.

Check out the website. Check out the rooms. For the record, I'm staying in The Lucky Rock room. How can I describe it; tiger-print carpet, a bed the size of Mexico with a headboard carved from the rockface (thank God I'm not actually anticipating a shag tonight because safe sex it would not be), a huge flatscreen TV hung on the opposite facing rockface, a leather sofa with leather cushions edged in feathers of some kind (ostrich?), a bathroom carved out of the aforementioned rock face with a Hollywood style mirror. And to think I left home without my fur bikini. Dam. Everything at the Madonna Inn that isn't made of rock has been painted pink. Really. Everything.

No matter how camp the photos on the website look, believe me, in the flesh, it's a hell of a lot camper. I'm typing this from the bar (pink of course), looking at a black and white photo of Phyllis Madonna with John Wayne no less. It's just surreal.

Here's my room; come up and see me some time. Please.

But if I ever come back here I'm bringing a stud and staying here.

Oh, and here's the restaurant. Pink enough?

If anyone in ED would actually like some pink sugar then please let me know and I'll send a care package.

Anyway, amuse yourself for 5 minutes and pick out a room for yourself at the Madonna Inn:

Madonna Suite anyone?

God I wish I was at home.

That is hysterical.

Now they may genuinely not realise they are camp, but you're not a millions miles from GUERNEVILLE which is a male homosexual town hubbie and I found ourselves wandering through on our road trip. It was obvious what it was from the get go - find a man who did not have a maustache and he was lost. Hubbie had the beard and tash combo so was fine. Anyway, we stayed a great riverside B&B and everyone - from the Harley riding doctor coming out of the sex shop to get on his bike, and stopping to offer free advice to a passing guy who looked a bit down and out - to all the men serving in Safeway's, were absolutely the nicest happiest relaxed men I have found in one town. I was the only female! We went to the bar in the evening and they were interested in us and our journey. Why not. Anyway we learned that this town was founded when San Francisco got a bit too much for some of the community and some headed out to the wine regions and the sequoia regions, and hence Guerneville.

I hope you are having a great time anyway - they still love our accents so enjoy your time!

And love that pink!

I'm so glad that places like this exist and that its refreshingly Irony-free. It looks like a design collaboration between Barbara Cartland & Liberace. As for The Lynch allusion, It does look similar to a Hotel featured in Wild At Heart. Superb and as for the Stud...well, you wont be short of sugarcubes. ;-)

Yeah baby, you me and GG.

CAVEMAN ROOM

The caveman is a popular prehistoric figure and a whimsical glimpse into his existence is revealed in this rustic den of solid rock! Animal prints, rock pond and stone-age clubs add to the primitive surroundings. A waterfall spills from overhead in the stone shower and water flows from the rocks into a stone sink basin in the cavern-style bathroom. Caveman has a king bed and will accommodate two primates.

    • It’s even worse this weekend, the bass is unbearable.    The fact SE22 is getting upset about something in an entirely different Borough probably suggests how bloody loud it is that we can still hear it from here!? It must be awful for those living right next to it as I feel stressed enough from half an hour away. I don’t see any benefit to the local community, it blocks off our green spaces, makes it deeply unpleasant to be at home every weekend, and most attending will be from outside of the area. I also wonder if these events are the reason there are so many dead fish currently bobbing around the lake in brockwell park? Pretty miserable for the local wildlife too.
