I said this five thousand odd posts ago:

Oh no, oh no, oh no. They haven't buggered the Clock House up have they?!?!?!?!? It used to be the best pub in East Dulwich although I have not had the chance to visit it in the last 8 months.

2 years ago I would go in for lunch at least twice a week for the steak and kidney pie which was quite litterally the best steak and kidney from a pub I have ever had.

What have they done to it? What brewery is running it now? I used to be Youngs.

... I leapt in and started a thread straight off as well:

castaway - East Dulwich contestant

Posted by: buggie 07 March, 2007 08:53

wasn't planning on watching it, but in the paper today turns out one of the contestents is ED-ish (my fave from the 'What are we thread'!!).

Might be cos I've just been doing a night shift and so need my bed, but I thought that was quite exciting.

Hello to all btw - been lurking since the w/e so thought I should register!! :))

thought I'd held out longer lurking before posting!!

I unknowingly lied.. I did what sean said and listed my posts and came up with the below, quite boring really..

"Thats me - down with the Thinifers!!" - 30/1/07

In response to a post from Dulwichmum - inevitably.

Shortly after that there were a series of posts which started to form the first drinks - ah happy days.

Do us old stagers get a long service medal?

Aside from asking about a new flat my first post was concerning the perennial scourge of East Dulwich..... dangerous dogs!

I apologise if this has been mentioned in the previous five pages (it would have taken some while to get through it all and heard the same arguments over and over) but I would like to raise an issue that is aside from the rights and wrongs of dog ownership and it's "dangers".

Peckham Rye, which I assume would be covered by this ban, is a common i.e. a piece of common land. This entitles the surrounding community to have certain entitlements. Traditionally these have taken the form of being allowed to take their animals to graze (we're talking sheep and cattle rather than poodles I imagine), the right to fish, the right to remove sods of turf and limited amounts of wood.

Incidently, if you were able to erect it in a day and set up a hearth you could have your home on a common without contravening planning law but if all of this applies to the land I would think Southwark council would have some trouble passing a by-law ensuring all animals were to be kept on leads.

I would think taking a herd of sheep down to graze on the Rye would highlight the ridiculousness of the councils position. Parks are a different matter however, and the council are well within their rights to issue any edict on park behaviour without consultation or legal amendment.

God I sound like a bloody sanctimonious old git..... ahhh good times!

    • It may be that the original purpose of the noticeboards could be changed to suit the changing needs of the ‘community’
    • Yes. I had already offered to do so  some time ago if you are not able to do this yourself. Monica is not in there every day, and it is holiday season at the moment. I will try to catch up with her in the next few weeks. I assume there is no hurry as this has been dragging on for so long. I will find out whether there was more than one key holder, or whether there was one for every notice board. Also whether the same key (or copies of the same key)  was used for each board. I will also find out how Monica  liaised with the relevant people on the council and what their job titles were I will ask what system there was for ensuring that only neutral and non commercial information is displayed on the boards, for getting that information and for updating it. Before I speak to Monica, it would be helpful to know if jellybeanz is offering to be the key holder for all the noticeboards and keep them up to date, or alternatively if anybody else apart from jellybeanz is willing to have a key. Please private message me if you prefer. I should make it clear that I am not offering to be a key holder or to be involved in this any further than I have outlined above. And also that I am not "getting a key". I am just finding out more from Monica. I feel that it would have been helpful to have addressed these practical issues at the outset.
    • I'm an air conditioning installer - this is everything you need to know about getting it fitted https://mol.im/a/14875047 via https://dailym.ai/android   This may be helpful (sorry it's the Daily Mail!)
    • I don’t want the gatekeepers/key holders deciding what or what doesn’t merit being on the board. It’s for council/municipal information only. It’s not right that commercial or political parties or social campaigners be allowed to take advantage of such a facility. So, if the key holder can work with the relevant councillor/s, this would be a great idea. If not, it woudn’t.
