East London Line Extension

Did Boris tweet these bits? Probably not, eh?:

"The Government stepped in while the Mayor dithered and, by covering 80% of the costs, made sure that this hugely important project for south Londoners will now go ahead.

'The Mayor has already cancelled lots of projects that would have benefitted my constituents. I am delighted that the government was able to force him into a position which meant that even he couldn't scrap this one.'

I wonder what this means for the value of my house?

That's a load of cr*p - if the Government has forced Boris into this why didn't they "force" Ken to do it?

*Bob* - It will open in May 2012.

So an aon with Ken in charge nothing......less than a year with Boris and it happens and yet Tessa seems to be acting like they've finally got round his obstruction...

....another example of why normal people detest politicians, playing their twatty games with an assumption we're all idiots

I wouldn't mind being "forced into a position" with ?60m of government funds. I'd be tempted to do a lot of dithering for that.

But, as long as it doesn't go all Metronet, I suppose it's good news. Though I'm not entirely sure what the point is. Doesn't this merely replace existing services that they've broken or are planning to break? And isn't the most pressing demand for transport to the City and Westminster and Camden? What demand is a line from Clapham to Dalston supposed to serve?

Anyone here work in Dalston?

Anyone here want to?

Anyone here looking forward to looking for work in Dalston when the train takes you there?

Nahhh, me neither. I did not even know there was a "round-London" train line. Isn't that the Circle Line? So we have an overground Circle Line as well now? Is that it?

Feel free to give me a great big 'whoosh' if I'm missing the sarcasm, but isn't the point to let people who live at both ends of the line to get into other parts of London easily (rather than being about travelling from one end to the other)? Personally I'm quite looking forward to a faster way to get to Canary Wharf (via Canada Water), Shoreditch and Highbury and Islington.

Many thanks for the update, on behalf of the trading community of Peckham, we believe that this is a positive step in the right direction towards the regeneration of Peckham town centre.

We look forward to the first East London Line train arriving at Peckham Rye and to the increased links to other parts of London when it does.

It's the silverlink.

If you've ever tried getting to Hackney from ED then you'll know this line can't come soon enough...

    • Hello, I'm looking for a heavy duty garden trolley, similar to the one attached. If you've got one you're looking to give away/sell, please let me know! Thanks 🙂 Jess
    • I wonder if it's got any connection to the nice  Viet Van people who come to North Cross Road market? Their food is great!
    • Have you tried buying or selling second hand baby or kids gear? You can find great products at a bargain price, but it can be frustrating. Tracking down the right product takes a lot of work, items rarely come as advertised and delivery options are limited. We’re talking 2 hour round trips to pick-up that perfect Bugaboo stroller, which turned out to be missing a wheel!   And what about reselling? Our kids outgrow everything so fast and the cupboards fill up with clutter that we’re not using anymore. Listing second hand items for sale is a lot of effort, it takes time and you often don’t get a fair price at the end of it.   We’re parents in Dulwich who decided to create a better way to buy and sell second hand baby and kids gear online.  Our marketplace www.rekiddle.com is launching this Summer. Join our waitlist on the website for early access, earn rewards and please give us some feedback. We'd love to hear what you think. Natalie and Chris
    • Some new places opening soon on Rye Lane: Cafe Britaly - a 'British Italian' cafe opening next week (8th May). Its situated near the south of Rye Lane, near Four Quarters in the venue which was formally Taco Queen and Supa Ya Ramen. https://cafebritaly.com/   There appears to be a Vietnamese cafe under works a few doors along next to Woodfall Opticians, according to a sign in the window, however I couldn't find an opening date or any info about it online
