Well I'd suggest you snack beforehand, as there will be a wild stampede when the food is brought out... ;-)

lol me 2

About 50+ people in the place, much drinking and jollifying, David Carnelli providing the entertainment. Wobbled on to the Bish and then to Stab and Wine... at which point numerous Rozzers appeared and trotted through to the back. Settled for a Doner Wrap and headed home. At the EDT much Policage and an ambulance. Walked up ED Road with the sounds of disturbance behind me.

What was occuring?

Another geat night, as usual managed to completely miss some people and not get enough time to say much more than hi to others, but I guess with 50+ people that is hardly surprising!

I recall meeting someone who promised to send me a song about actuaries... not yet convinced this wasn't the drink talking and that no such song exists (seems an odd thing to sing about!), but I'll be watching my PMs with interest!

oooooohhhhhh... got a teeensy weeeensie bit of a HANGOVER!!!

(charliecahrlie, please don't shout like that... ahhh, my head...)

glad I didn't finish that last double Tanqueray as it's my Mum's 80th this weekend and I have to sort a load of stuff...

see you at the next one folks xxcc

"Just going for a couple. Lots to do at the weekend. I mean, I'll be sociable but I'm not up for a late one..."

Words uttered yesterday afternoon. So why did I get home at 2am and where did this hangover come from?

fantastic work from Georgia, as always, many thanks: Another top night courtesy of EDF drinks. Barely managed a lap of the room and hardly said hello to anyone. See you all next time?

Great fun evening, just sobering up in time to wander down to upton park for some complimentary drinks...eek.

blimey, that was a bit of a runnning altercation outside last night, great entertainment as I waited for the bus mind!! Reminded me of the old days in Hitchin.

Anyhoo, as usual great to catch up with those I met and gutted I didn't get to meet many of you, bon3yard, mikecg, charliecharlie, and more, typical forum drink in that respect I guess, pshaw will be having a go at the clique's introductory masters anon!!

I was a good boy and home in time for The Wire, yet I still have a pounding headache! Not fair! Despite my brief appearance, I had a good time. PGC you are the best of people, and RosieH, I suspect when I disappeared in to the night, you were asking "Who's that guy?".

    • We used to feed the birds, but once the parakeets discovered this they just took over, scaring away all the other species and eating everything in sight. I tried scaring them away with a Nerf gun, but they just didn't care. I know it will open a can of worms (no pun intended) but I really think  the parakeet population needs to be reduced; yes they are pretty, but they are just like a plague of locusts when it comes to food supplies.  PS apologies for pedantry @malumbu but the true definition of "decimate" is to reduce by a tenth... 🫤
    • If anyone is going to the meetings above, you may wish to raise the issue of the impact of the lights, noise & activity on the local bat population. Gala commissioned a survey on bat activity, which stated that activity had been identified, with several species detected, and that action must be taken to minimise any disturbance to these legally protected species. One of the recommendations was "to limit artificial lighting and reduce noise levels starting at least 20 minutes before sunset throughout the event period"  I asked the Events Team three months ago whether this recommendation had been implemented. I finally got an answer yesterday - "This recommendation was not achievable due to the nature of the event... it was concluded that not implementing this recommendation would have little impact"  So there you have it. Commission a survey (box ticked) and then don't adhere to the findings because it's "not achievable", thereby wilfully and knowingly negatively affecting the foraging & commuting habits of a legally protected wildlife species. This is on top of the useless bird survey, which only takes into account activity within the walls of the site, not the surrounding area which is full of trees with nesting birds which are undoubtedly disturbed by a month of noise, lights & activity.
    • Really good service. Good bread. And very accommodating when we had to outwit our clever resident fox.
    • ...and so, 4 years on from the "dramatic planning meeting" that approved the "meganursery", how has it all worked out in reality? The building looks nice from the outside - but I don't know anything more. Did either of the nursery businesses on EDG fail because there was no demand for nursery places in East Dulwich? Did Carmageddon on East Dulwich Grove get worse? Were pre-COVID work patterns abandoned forever (lol)? Were some of the concerns expressed in opposition to the planning application a teensy bit overblown...? https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/southwark/mega-nursery-approved-amid-dramatic-planning-meeting/
