Dear All

I know this is a long shot, but is there any sort of boxing club in the East Dulwich area or nearby that anyone knows of. By boxing, I mean a proper club with a boxing ring or two, plenty of bags to hit, trainers screaming at you to work harder, sparring - that sort of thing. I am moving to the area shortly and would be interested to know, otherwise I'll go to Gleasons at London Bridge but it would be useful if there is somewhere closer to home and maybe cheaper as well.

All help gratefully appreciated and apologies for my cretinous username. I couldn't think of anything beyond that bear from Rainbow for some reason.

Cheers!

The Half Moon used to be The Brixton And District Boys Boxing Club when I used to go there a million years ago, these days it's Clinton McKenzie gym. They do boxercise. Alternatively I'm pretty sure there is a boxing gym on the Walworth Road but I've forgotten it's name.

Yes, this gym is now on bigger premises than the last venue above the pub. The new venue is by the junction of Norwood Rd and Tulse Hill. Clinton is a great trainer and you will certainly get in the ring, do some sparring, have plenty of bags to punch, do lots of skipping and be screamed at! If you have your own gloves I'd bring them with you as their ones are a bit sweaty (a girly comment I know). I just wish I had more time to go there regularly.

Bungle, dulwich hamlet runs boxing sessions along with a wide variety of other martial arts. i went to what i thought was a boxing session once but got the days wrong and turned up to a mixed martial arts lesson. sweated like a grand national winning horse but had a great time, even when lying on my side and being pounded in my ribs with a medicine ball. you should definitely check dulwich hamlet out.

    • But not old enough to remember the highest unemployment rate, inflation and interest rates in history in the early eighties under the Tories? A rather selective memory you have. There has never been a four-day week: it was a three-day week imposed by the Conservative government under the Blasted Heath.
    • I see that there was a government consultation started in July 2024, a response, and then a revision to the National Planning Policy Framework, and then to the Green Belt guidance in February 2025, https://www.gov.uk/guidance/green-belt .  It includes the updates but doesn't give the nescient much clue of what was materially changed. There will probably be some good, and less good, summaries to be found.
    • I think, from memory for LHR, we are under a holding pattern so if LHR is backed up we may get more planes overhead. There are multiple holding patterns so it is not always ours that is used and it generally depends on the wind direction as to which is used.
    • Abandoned along Green Dale. I'm assuming it's been stolen as it looks like it belongs to a 5-6 year old. Let me know if it's yours
