  1. Couple of recent things I've seen. A guide to recognising your saints which I was really looking forward to watching, but just found so bleak, and didn't like the way it was filmed. Disapointed, but will read the book and see if that's better. Outlaw, which was recommended to me... Not the worst film I've ever seen, but not at all great! Again, disappointing. Letters from Iwo Jima, bloody good! Very understated, and well made, I really like the way Clint Eastwood directs! Only slight critisism would be that the subtitles aren't great and you get a lot of "indiscriminate chat", when they are quite clearly saying something, and I feel you might lose out on things because of that. Still would recommend it though, and I really am not usually a war films kind of guy!
  2. I don't really look up above the shops too often, so am not bothered by it, and I'm sure they're all lovely inside, but I still think the buildings look fugly. I do however agree that Bromley is a shocking place! (can't see your photo as my work block flickr, much to my annoyance!) At the end of the day though it makes no odds. Sydenham High Street has lovely buildings, but it's still nowhere near as nice. It does have a few absolute treasures though like the little iranian shop that sells some amazing breads and little sweet things. It will be interesting to watch it change, as I'm sure it will. There are a lot of "middle class" people who are happy to see the arrival of The Dolphin in it's new form. Personally I think it's a souless and awful place but there you go. There are also lots of pubs filled with "working classes" and old men, and I wonder what will happen to these pubs and these people, and whether there will be the same bitterness about the area being "up and coming"... Here is a link to a thread you may find interesting on the Sydenham Forum, in which there is a bit of East Dulwich envy.
  3. I agree about cooking sauces, luckily Mrs Keef makes a fine pasta sauce with tomatos she grows in the window box grow bag thingy. However, I would say that Lloyd Grossman sauces are pretty good, especially the tomato and chilli pasta sauce, and the rogon josh. Back on topic, Jeremy is right about opening hours, and sometimes after a long day it would be nice to have somewhere you could grab something half decent that you can chuck in a microwave. Oh, and black pudding is so so wrong, that from now on I will never listen to anything you ever say about food... It's conjealed blood and fat for christ's sake!

  5. Don't start all that again. Do you ever use things from a jar like pasta sauces or curry sauces or do you make everything from scratch?
  6. To be fair, I don't think Maurice ever called anyone a heathen, he just pointed out, quite correctly, that the archtecture on Lordship Lane is fugly. He did say the shops were good, and he ate good food.
  7. She could be reading this you know. (not aimed at anyone inparticular, I'd just hate to be her and read this)

  9. She's still looking alright to me! The outfit wasn't great though I agree.

This is why it works in place like Canada and New Zealand. Those countries still have the usual problems endemic to western society like drugs and binge drinking but there is very little violent crime and robbery. I've always thought there was a lot of poverty in NZ, but that may just be because I've seen "Once were warriors" :-S
  11. What do people think of the Palmerston? I'm not a huge fan, but it's central... Or The Castle just for pure comedy value!

We all have those people that it's impossible to buy for, and they really don't give a toss, so instead of buying them something that will be left to gather dust, buy a goat for someone who will be able to use it. 13. NO, Lend them to me first!

  15. Definitely more of an eating establishment than a pub, I always feel really uncomfortable in there if someone drags me in for a beer, like I should be ordering food.
  16. And binge drinking ;-)
  17. There was definitely something strange about them! The young boy who won probably won because he got the 12 year old girls' votes.
  18. Terry is a knob, and I hope he loses the England captaincy. Didn't see any footy yesterday as I was rehearsing... Glad I missed it all really. The games must have been tight, as all MOTD2 could think of to talk about for Liverpool was Torres' defending... He's a bloody striker Alan!!!! They did also say Gerrard was playing too deep, but I can't comment on that not having seen it. Anyway, guess we're still in the race, but have a mountain to climb.
  19. LOL Brill! >:D
  20. I had a memory of a programme I remember enjoying as a kid, the theme tune (well one line of it) has always stuck in my mind. Who else remembers THIS??? >:D< I love this thread, so many old memories... Anna, Knightmare was f**king class!!!
  21. Yeah I think it's just because everyone had xmas parties with work and stuff. I was thinking about doing The Drum, but decided when in Liquorish that I should probably mission it home... I hate the 176!
  22. Right, I have to warn you that these are not pretty, we were obviously all completely twated!!! PHOTOS HERE Sorry I haven't made a set, but need to renew my pro account on flickr. Feel free to browse the pics.
  23. There are several stories about her, and why she was like that, poor lady was obviously very disturbed, and I'm glad if she is indeed better now.
