Do you mean the "award winning internet bank and the UK's most recommended bank."..... Nah!:)).......used to be Midland/HSBC since '71 but now with Lloyds who have an excellent friendly Local Branch 7 mins. walk away. Go on, whats the vibe about 1st Direct Sean?;-)
  2. "Are they are obviously behind the times " Behind the times??? Its positively antequated! For a brief moment I was transported back to a time where people answered your calls ................and Police gave the local villains a friendly "dig" on their way to the Cells a la "Gene Hunt-Ashes To Ashes".....and The Sun always shone, particularly in '76.....;-)
  3. I simply HAD to share so please forgive and humour me. I rang Thanet District Council and got the usual "all calls are monitored" comment and then, obviously, waited for the delay which, eventually, leads to the inevitable endless series of "options" that lead to more "options" that lead to an aotomated message etc...when the following happened and I did NOT imagine it.... A lovely, pleasant HUMAN BEING ( a lovely Lady actually ) answered the phone immediately and dealt with my query and additional request, promptly and efficiently in a really friendly way and thanked me for my call.....wtf???? Am I STILL in a Time Warp?....it was all over in as little time as possible. Could this catch on??? p.s. Yes I KNOW "Thanet District Council" is quieter than any London Borough equivalent but still..weird,uh???

  7. Politicians are like Monkeys........the further up the tree they climb, the more they expose parts of themselves that you would not rather see..... Budget, Smudget...we're heading for a 1930's Recession and we will have to grin and bear it, untilthe good times return...
  8. Mick Mac Wrote: ... (that could be TLS offering the 7.8 - so do not > take much of his money) Nice of you to say that Mick but at The Track that kind of attitude very nearly put me out of Business!:)) I made the rare leap from "Poacher turned Gamekeeper" and never missed a Meeting as a Punter (other than Holidays)....then I went from The Terraces to become one of "The Enenmy"...:))... After 4/5 weeks of this I asked all the Guys I used to stand with why they were not betting with me and they said, pretty much, "Tone, U R one of us, we like you and we don't want to take YOUR money!"...."We don't like xxxx or yyyy though!" I replied "Thats all very well but I have t pay xxxx Expenses to The Track/Staff to bet and am not taking enough Business as you are trying to protect me!"....followed by..."I'm trying to take your f+++ing money!"...with a smile. After that I traded with these Guys and Good Luck to whoever came out on top.... However, outside of "Business" it is not a good idea to give or receive Betting money directly with friends, you are right M8.

  10. Apparently the Funeral proceedings went very smoothly.
  11. Sadly. time is against me Sean, but I did not even know about "Camera Detectors!"..:)) Sean: "My answer is that if the random chance of being caught speeding is higher it should motivate people to take fewer risks. I would say that that has been successful in recent years" That could still be achieved by not concealing these cameras, but I can see that could be the case but the cynic in me tells me that that is not the primary reason for the existence of the "additional" cameras. Strangely the M20 does not appear to have any outside The London Borders and many parts of The M25 do not have them. See you later Sean, change of plan, its a River Trip from Greenwich down to The EmbankmentB) p.s. You don't know a bloke who can get 'old of any second-hand detectors do ya?...on second thoughts lets leave it M8..;-) Have A Good Day...
  12. SeanMacGabhann Wrote: ....."its a money making scam" It's just childish. To claim that the government are petty and farcical when drivers openly admit flouting existing speeding laws is just double-speak. So cameras are hidden are they? And your point is what? That you only obey the law if you know you are being watched.. Shame on you I say Firstly, shame on you for saying that those who hold an alternative view to your own are "childish". Unlike you Sean, I shall take the moral higher ground and refrain from, well, frankly, childish comments ironically. Back to the Subject matter. These cameras were brought in to raise awareness at certain Road Hotspots and to try and limit the speed of motorists at these places. That was their sole original intention. The Ministry Of Transport has extended its tentacles to place these speed cameras at thousands of other places, nationwide. Many of these "additional" areas have had few, if any, accidents so first question Seanis: Why have the cameras been placed at many areas with little or no previous history of accidents, if its not to raise cash? Second question for you is: If the Government are genuinely trying to curb the speed of motorists on roads out of Town that are 50/60 MPH then why are so many of these cameras deliberately positioned in places where you are least likely to notice them? ( The A2 from Kent to London has the majority of its speed cameras concealed, for example. Many of these speed cameras are situated at the bottom of hills, like Shooters Hill or when the mph limit suddenly decreases so why do you think that is Sean?...Co-incidence... If you do not realise that many of these initiatives have meandered away from their original good intentions then you are naive Sean, one must say. p.s At least "naive" is a kinder criticism than "childish"... Over to you as I will be fascinated as to how you answer these points, because, at least, you are one of the few I'm glad to say (in my experience)who always attempt to converse and answer direct questions. Most people on most fora, in my experience, just avoid "awkward" questions or are simply too ignorant or supercillious to answer. Hurry up though please Seanster as I'm off on a Country ride today M8...:) p.s To re-iterate its an excellent idea to have strict limits near Schools/Hospitals/Residential Roads but drivers have this funny feeling that there are having the royal p+ss taken out of them and, strangely, they don't like that...
  13. True. I was only trying to say Happy Easter but someone has just informed me its been and gone...
  14. I agree 20 MPH on Residential roads in Southwark are an excellent idea. "50" on a Dual Carriageway, which is now being proposed is absolutely farcical, as any experienced, long-term Driver on those roads will testify. They are "mostly" for financial gain and "remarkably" many of those pretty lemon yellow boxes are hidden behind large road signs and corners and overgrown trees that do not get cut etc...in fact most boxes are, out of Town, in my experience. It was a sound idea when they were positioned in Road Hotspots but, as per usual, once the precedent was set, the Authorities turned the original "inch" into a "yard"... How can they be a visual deterrent to warn a Motorist of potential danger when they are concealed, "mostly" ? Answers on a Postcard, anyone?

They were on their way home to Golders Green/Hampstead Garden Suburb with their combined 2 Million fortune safely stored away, presumably for a rainy day in Heaven....they are 94, 94, 85, and 64 respectively: a combined age of 337 years old!
  16. You won't catch me criticising Southwark as they are a Nucleur-Free Zone. If we are about to get nuked I'm catching the "53" and getting back within her secure Borders as fast as my little tootsies willget me there.

Good Luck to you Mick Mac- you Won the money, fair and square and given that I got the result wrong, I was delighted to only lose ?24. Its the adrenalin at The Racetrack when you lay a fair sized Bet. If I ever have to leave the game I will reveal some of the risks that I have taken.:(...its involved potentially losing all my money, on more than one occassion now, if truth be told, but I'm still there to tell the tale..B)
  18. I used to give Scalextrix demonstrations as part of my Saturday Morning job at Gamages in Hatton Garden (similar to Selfridges)...Great Fun... My Father made me a Subbuteo Board and I bought 50 teams and had Leagues with my M8'S....My Dad said to me that he "wished he had never made that bloody Board" as I spent a long time in my room every week with my Pals and on my own, as well. . I even used to do Commentaries on Philips Tapes. Escalado was the game though and groups of us used to play and gamble round each others houses in the evening.
  19. IN THE RED CORNER LADEEZ AN' GENELMEN We have the Pro-20 MPH, GET'EMOUTTATHEIRKARZ LOBBY IN THE BLUE CORNER LADEEZ AN' GENELMEN We now have 29.4 Million Cars, which is 30% up on 10 years ago.... The more "restrictive" the Authorities want to be, the more freedom to buy and drive a car the "People" become.. WHO ARE THE PEOPLE? WE ARE THE PEOPLE !!

  21. George Guest, 15, was knocked to the ground three times by an anonymous opponent while playing Fight Night 3 on his games console through the internet. He was so impressed by the fighter that he sent him a message asking: "Who do you think you are? Ricky Hatton?" The reply came back: "Actually I'm Floyd Mayweather." .....and IT WAS !!!!:)) Glad to see Floyd is now doing "Reality" Fighting to continue his illustrious career...:)
