Deserves an update. On current form I've recently enjoyed Honaloochie's occassiona; contributions and I'm warming to the puns and self-deprecation of TLS. "Bob" continues to impress while Snorky has had his moments recently. Ted Max will always be good value but has been a tad subdued lately and BBW seems to be restricted to his Den lately. Quidsy is good for a laugh and Dulwichmum is one of the wittiest Women since Dorothy Parker. Time for another piece de resistance from Moos and a Magnum Opus from Brendan is only just around the corner, I'm fairly certain. Keep up the good work Guys....:-$

Swedish night clubs vs UK night clubs Put that into You Tube and you'll never criticise these gorgeous girls again. Stunning Swedish Girls though they don't compare to some of the talent at The Pig 'n Whistle in Newcastle...:)

Your Thoughts On Garden Fence Partitioning....
Tony.London Suburbs replied to Tony.London Suburbs's topic in The Lounge
Before I moved to The Suburbs 26 years ago I had been brought up in Council Flats where the people were very sociable (apart from the Guy who murdered someone, immediately below us (he wasn't quite so pleasant:)).... It was customary to chat to ones neighbours over our Balconies and I've been lucky with the 10 different neighbours I've had, in total, on both sides, since I moved in 1983 to Bexley. My garden is completely open on one side, with chicken wire and had 2 x 6 ft Panels (now 3 x 6 ft) on the other side for a little initial privacy on the other side., We would hate being "imprisoned" in our Garden, particularly, as I spend a great deal of time there, along with our 4 West Highland Terriers...:)... The front garden has a 8 ft high hedge which has the great effect on closing off my front house which I prefer (at the front) and I share a large front area with my neighbours, who are a very friendly young couple, onthe other side. -

I was interested to see how many Forumites would balance the privacy of their Family, while in the back garden against the sociability of communicating with ones neighbours. -
:'(Saw a re-run of the 1974 Cup Final on Liverpool's Channel last week when they beat Newcastle 3-0. The commentator said look at those fantastic Newcastle Supporters who have followed their team thru' thick and thin. Little did they realise that they would win nothing at all for the next 35 years as well, and still counting.

Ted Max Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "He not stop talking about bloody fence soon. I > shoot self." Have to say the surrealistic nature of me smiling and laughing, while trying to convey that I like LOW fences appealled to my sense of the ridiculous hugely. Equally he was smiling and laughing, punctuated with gestures and "o.k's" while trying to ignore the fact that I objected to the extra height. The outcome? They spent the best part of yesterday afternoon onwards, removing the extra height of the 4 Panels so we have 3 tall panels next to the Houses, then the smaller section and 2/3 large ones at the very end. p.s. My g'f so enjoyed the "dialogue" over the weekend that she tried everything to push me back out in the garden to disrupt proceedings while they were trying to get the job done..:)) ....in exactly the manner you described Ted. -

Ted Max Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "Quick, is neighbour Tony. He come to talk about > bloody fence again. Turn light off and quiet keep. > Last time he was talking four hours. About fence." I'm suitably wounded Maxie:)) Funny how this language barrier malarkey works though as since they moved in we have communicated well. When we were discussing the apportionment of payment for the fences, he spoke articulately about the cost and effort involved for him in buying and putting up these fences. I paid. Yet, when I mentioned about loss of sunlight and Feeedom, generally he did not seem to grasp the concept but he, readily, accepted over half the financial cost and was able to make his point, with admirable clarity, that he had to hire the van and other residue costs which forced a further contribution from me. ....still didn't understand the loss of light and neighbourly considerations though, that got lost in translation somewhere over The Baltic Sea....(tu) -

I couldn't escape from the place when I stayed the week in a caravan with my Late Mum and Dog 15 years ago! The only thing I get is Gout, once/twice a year which makes it hard to walk until I take my Naproxen Tablets which remedy the problem in 2 hours. My Mum was in her 70's and the Dog could not be left in the caravan on her own so all 3 of us held in each other up for support while we hobbled to the Town Centre so I could get some ruddy tablets so that I could drive home and away from there!:))

indiepanda Wrote: perhaps not reflective of an increase in crime of course. Living in London is never going to be as safe as the sleepy Hampshire town I lived in before moving up here - being somewhere less sleepy has it'sownsides as well as the plus points that brought me here. I am not saying I am going to move somewhere else, but anywhere I could live is a compromise on some level, and perhaps higher accomodation costs or a smaller place is a compromise worth making to live in an area with a lower crime rate. Certainly something I will think quite hard about before actually buying. I was walking in the Beautiful Footscray Meadows yesterday, half-a-mile, from London. The weather was glorous, most people acknowledged you. The Dogs that most people walked were friendly (like their Owners, "funnily enough")..it was picturesque. Lovely Nature Reserve...place full of friendly, smiling Families and I thought how great this sene was. I've not heard of any Muggings in the 26 years I have been near this area (obviously there have been some that I'm unaware of)..but I would say you are 10 times less likely to be an innocent victim. Never had any problems coming home late, even thru' the 5 ft wide dark alleys, which are numerous. Yet you can buy a 3-bedroom House for under 200k. There are some good Boy and Girl Schools in the area, including Grammar Schools for both genders, and its easy access to Bexley/Sidcup/Eltham/Welling all around 1/2 miles away (including The Broadway Shopping Centre in Bexley). You are at the start of the A2 Motorway so you can reach the heart of Kent in 20 or so minutes and can get to London Bridge/Cannon Street/Charing Cross by train in around 30 minutes. The kids are (generally)well-behaved and the local PCSO was bemoaning the fact that the Area is too quiet so she was forced to visit local Businesses to occupy her time. I know I'm missing something, but with Trafalgar Square only 30 or so mintes away in one direction and The beautiful Kent Countryside 20 mins away in the other, I'm damned if I know what is after 26 years (and I've still only heard of 2 minor incidents in my road which has over 100 Houses in it)... Food For Thought?

If a House was your choice of residence would you ideally like total privacy in the back garden or would you like the extra light, the feeling of not being imprisoned and the opportunity to exchange greetings and conversation with you next-door neighbours(assuming reasonable People) ? -
