  5. Not JKW - looks like bindweed . http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/Profile.aspx?pid=241
  6. Was there some drumming last night ? Or was I dreaming ?
  7. Jane 1 - these are good http://www.essentialaids.com/swedish-trolley.html. and generally supplied free on assessment . http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200389/staying_independent_at_home/2391/equipment_to_help_you/1
  8. Other options I know of are Oxfam book shop at Herne Hill ,there are 20 min parking spaces very close and same side of road .It's opposite Half Moon pub in Half Moon Lane . Or I use charity shop in Peckham ,it's on Peckham high St ,just before junction with Peckham Hill st on left hand side if driving east from Camberwell Green towards New Cross . Just after Peckham Square and before bus garage . There is a car parking spaces immediately outside ,but it's only free parking during the morning
  9. Jane1 - Wiltshire farm foods also supply Apetito ,I think their frozen range is slightly superior . My mum gets the MOW version ,I wouldn't say they are as bad as you describe . You do need to be careful what you select ,you're right chips don't respond to being kept warm in the van and dont arrive in good condition . If meals are arriving dried up it's probably because the edge of the film has been lifted up ( I sometimes suspect this is because the delivery lady has started peeling the film off ready to give to someone on the round but found them not in ,but thats just a guess ) and you need to complain about this . Apetito's number is 0207 639 8722 . My mother was asessed by Southwark and deemed in need of MOW so she pays a subsidised rate ,it's half what you pay if not subsidised . The number is 020 7525 3324 http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200407/my_support_choices/2370/contact_southwark_adult_social_care They do an initial telephone screening with the elderly person ,they couldn't care less if that person has trouble hearing or holding the phone ,or whether the person answers questions like " Do you have trouble getting shopping " with a literal " No " . Though of course if the next question were to be " So how do you grt your shopping ? " the answer would be " My daughter gets it " They have a whole list of unexplained questions like " Do you keep money in the house ? " All conducted in a robotic voice obviously reading from a script . No human interaction like you can get in hospitals where they preface exercises like this with a sympathetic " I'm afraid there a lot of questions and some of them might seem odd " ,but then thats face to face . Good luck ,I'd persevere with Apetito ,just be careful not order meals with chips or omlettes . I've never known the food to be cold . Bland ,but not cold .
  10. Have PM'd you bint .
  11. Clare11 IME people who use the expression "get over it " are not people who readily see another's point of view . And I feel that good manners are all about taking another persons point of view into consideration .
  12. Paignton ,Torquay ,Dartmouth ,. Latter probably favourite IMO . Dartmouth is good for pottering around ,has a market ,good river cruises ,fish and chips etc .
  13. yup ,that's what reading the links in the two previous posts explains .

  15. Vicki "They have been going around for months now they normally start out around 6am they took my cooker that I put out did me a favour did not have to go to the tip myself " Southwark operate fantastic free service for collecting bulky items http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200084/recycling_and_waste/1667/bulky_waste_collection/1
  16. Good points Saffron . Of course we ( or I ) haven't actually heard anything from the council about the reason for this pollarding at this time .
  17. Good point bookstamper .
  18. Go for it DulwichFox . Afraid I don't have details but I do know of someone who got this ,terrific asset .
  19. They're limes . As far as I understand it ,traditionally pollarded and once pollarded then have to be kept pollarded . I don't think there's any question of malpractice on behalf of the contractors ,I guess they were given a brief ,quoted and executed . I don't agree with the timing of the work ( and if you look on RHS website you will see they don't either because of risk of fungal infection to trees ) . I would like Southwark to justify/explain the reasoning behind such severe pollarding being started in August /September .
  20. Sorry ,I'm didn't mean to give impression that there was a link between intro of self service and aggro from customers . I agree removal of library card and priveleges would have been way forward with customer I saw ,or calling the police . But I think deflecting it and moving the lady on probably meant a swifter and less complicated resolution . Both Peckham and Dulwich libraries seem terribly overcrowded ,not enough space for people . Not enough desk/seating . People sitting on floor . Umemployment ,exam revision ,other libraries closed ?
  21. I don't know if there's a connection ( with self service ) but I was recently verbally abused by an extremely aggressive woman at Peckham library who was threatening to slap me if I looked at her . She had just finished directing an astonishingly unpleasant tirade towards a member of staff . Fortunately the intervention of another member of staff who from her tact and handling of situation had obviously had training in skills not normally required by librarians .
  22. Don't apologise treehugger , I'm heading for bore of the year about this . How can I not when literally every time I look out of my upper flat on Barry Rd I see bare sticks ? And the hard not pretty surfaces of grubby bin covered forecourts across the road . And the view straight into everyone else's top floor flats . How I would rather see a sea of moving green leaves . How little I'm consoled by thinking " never mind next year the leaves will no doubt be back " . It does seem odd that we get no posts from any " professionals " ,not even people like Robin Cruickshank ? Jones . Who I think loves trees and use to be in touch with Southwark tree dept . Have been discussing with my friend and I think failing a council tax refund I'd like some kind of uplighters ( on a timer ) on the trees to cast shadows and make a virtue out of the wierd structural shapes we're left with . Alternate colours on trees I think . Or maybe green ?
  23. Route is a doddle but congestion can be bad .
  24. Sadly getting to M3 from ED is a pain . There have been previous threads with suggested backdoubles . I go Clapham ,Wandsworth ,A3 and cut across from A3 to A303 . Cant remember junction ,sorry .
  25. We always do as LauraHW . But you can get really good train fares on the Megabus site http://uk.megabus.com/ from Waterloo to Exeter .
