  2. In regard who originally sang YNWA, Liverpool have the strongest claims back to 1963. If it was started by Celtic why was it not heard at their greatest triumph the '67 European Cup Final? As for United, they may have sung it in '58 but certainly not to the familiar tune to what's made it famous in football as of course that was not recorded until the early 60s. Some research done by the Guardian further pours cold water over other Clubs claims.. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2003/mar/12/theknowledge.sport
  3. What about YNWA?
  4. Right... got ya! :-S
  5. Who on earth is, "The White Pele" ?
  6. In many parts of the British Isles there are only two teams in town - Liverpool and United, and that is why the rivalry runs so deep not just in the north west. Other Liverpool rivals come and go, Leeds, Arsenal, Chelsea but the one that keeps going through thick and thin is the two longtime heavyweights of English football. Obviously you can throw in Everton as local rivals for Liverpool but outside Merseyside it'll not be as strong :) That is one of the reasons Red Devil I don't like going up to Old Trafford, they are absolute lunatics and it makes you quite happy to be locked in at the end for your own safety by the riot Police. Out of all the grounds in the country for Liverpool fans I'd say Old Trafford is by far and away the most dangerous. I'm not saying it's a picnic for United fans at Anfield but at least they can get away with wearing the odd scarf! The one thing I've noticed about United fans when watching games on the telly is that half their songs seem to be nicked from Liverpool, e.g. Istanbul and Torres songs, and then the other half seem to be bile about other clubs they're not even playing especially Liverpool and recently Newcastle. Years ago I was staggered to hear United in a Champions League match singing their loudest when it came to "F**k McManaman and F**k McAteer".. As for tonight's game I'd like Barcelona to win because I like them but if it's Chelsea then good luck to them - I just hope it's more of a contest than last night..
  7. I really don't understand why anyone who is a Liverpool fan would want to cheer Man United over any other team unless it's to Liverpool's advantage and vice versa - are you seriously telling me Keef you would support United in the Final over Barcelona or Chelsea!? If Spurs were playing Real Madrid tonight I may root for Spurs, but I'd not expect that from West Ham, Arsenal or Chelsea fans. Rivals do not support each other - you do not cross that line! :)
  8. Heaven help us when football fans greet success with a handshake and then switch on the radio to listen to the cricket..
  9. It was only a few weeks ago United fans booed United off the pitch at half time against Spurs.. As for plastic fans, what about United having their employees on the touchline waving giants flags before their European games.. Hope there is no trouble when United return to Rome - but I suspect some will be looking to settle some old scores.
  10. Sounds like the beginning of a storyline for the next series of 24... What I want to know is whether the swine flu fatalities would have avoided death if they'd had 'normal flu' symptoms..? Secondly, what is the ratio difference between swine flu and 'normal flu' cases to actual deaths?
  11. I believe the local pole vaulting team may have found a cheeky way in for their morning exercises
  12. Well it's a shame Arsenal have not kicked on since last season, but it was always going to be difficult after the majority of their midfield walked in the summer. Can Wenger turn it around as it must be hard for the Maestro to motivate himself?
  13. I guess I'll be the one to say it but I think this thread when you read from start to finish does convey mixed messages, through no fault of anyone, and hence why it has not really kicked on.. lemonellen if you want to push your idea forward then a new thread is best started.. :)
  14. It would have been a bigger mistake by the Referee having given a penalty not to have sent Fletcher off as the last defender
  15. Will Ferguson or United will have any complaints over the penalty when they got one just as atrocious themselves to beat Spurs..
  16. Just thrown ?2 away at 120/1 for Arsenal to turn it around to reach final...
  17. I think anywhere that will have a TV from the back waters of the CPT to the EDT on Lordship Lane. I personally prefer the EDT but if you're looking to cheer United then maybe the Vale is better option.
  18. Yes, Arsenal can win tonight. If they show faith in a high tempo game they can break United down and run that United midfield ragged. I don't think United have the defensive unit (defenders & midfield) to withstand a turbo charged Arsenal. I'm expecting a high scoring match with Arsenal to cut loose. The Italian referee is a bit of a show pony himself, but expect him to clamp down early on the usual Ronaldo histrionics. With Rooney a yellow card away from missing the Final he may not have the usual fire in his belly. This is one game that should not leave a bitter taste; what with no Steve Bennett, Rob Styles, Mike Riley or Howard Webb in charge we can assume the victor tonight will have won fairly. Prediction: 4-2 or 4-1 to Arsenal
  19. Actually antijen I did feel the community spirit in Camberwell, and as I said earlier I do like the area. I found people in Camberwell were very approachable and friendly. That was a great summer in Camberwell, but I cannot let it mask my opinion - rightly or wrongly that is what I think.
  20. The 27th is the night of the Champions League Final - how about day before?
  21. Well maybe Gerrard should be in the Top 10 but it does not alter the principles of the argument..
  22. Berbatov wants to play for a bigger club so sod Spurs and their supporters. Then of course there is the hyprocrisy of the argument when crying foul of Ronaldo wanting to join Madrid. We are not talking of players being on a pedestal. We are talking of players who angle for a move for their own personal greed. Players who refuse to play, say they'll score an own goal, players who will not perform, players who feign injury, players who pretend they're going to sign new contracts. I think that is morally wrong, and I also think it's wrong to try and justify your weak argument by attempting to draw parallels with other professions that are like chalk and cheese.
  23. You cannot compare Joe Bloggs with a professional footballer earning millions of pounds who laps up the adulation and endorsements - footballers have an obligation to the supporters more than poor Joe Bloggs does to his customers. Michael Owen strung Liverpool along for a good 12 months over a new contract, in all likelyhood he'd have walked on a free at end of season. Okay it was to Real Madrid but what really grates is that 12 months later he signs for Newcastle to earn more money than he'd ever seen (or so he told then England boss Sven G.E.). When he went to Madrid he had Raul, Ronaldo and Morientes to compete so it shouldn't have been a surprise not to be a first team regular. However, 12 months later he quits to join Newcastle. Liverpool had told him to sit tight and reject Newcastle so Madrid would have to accept the Reds lower bid. Every summer since joining Newcastle, there have been strong rumours (fuelled by Owen's agents?) that Owen has get out clauses to join a big 4 club - Owen has not dampened that speculation. I think it is only because of injury he is still at Newcastle.
  24. Thanks for the efforts Barry One other point about the East Dulwich ticket machine, is that a few times I've found the on duty ticket office manager helping another guy fixing the external ticket machine - which means it is impossible to buy a ticket. Not sure what can be done about this but no one wants to miss their train or pay ?10 fine at other end when they're running to a tight schedule.
  25. The Top 5 mercenaries who've passed through the Premiership was bursting at the seams so now it's a Top 10.. 1) Drogba 2) C. Ronaldo 3) Michael Owen 4) Anelka 5) Adebayor 6) Ashley Cole 7) Berbatov 8) Flamini 9) Gallas 10) Lucas Neill
