What on earth is going on and how do we tackle this.

Woman in the prime of her life stabbed to death around 11pm last night in Bellenden Road area...

Somebody must have been up and around about that time - lets pull together and root these people out once and for all...

Southwark News has launched its Stop a Stabbing campaign and calls on everybody to do their bit!

Is the shopkeeper the same person as the 20 yr old woman in Bellenden referred to in the article? Or is that a separate one?

Sorry, how do "we" do that?

Approach all kids and ask them if they have a knife?

Storm the school and parliament gates and demand they educate and bring up the kids that the kids' parents can't manage to do because of their own (the parents') shortcomings?

All I can do is be friendly to the youngsters on my estate and listen to them if they have problems.

The kids carrying knives are not One sort of person.

Define "interesting", do.

How do we tackle this you ask? I don't know, but I feel strongly that we should all consider this extract from John Donne's Meditation XVII:

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind ...

I think too often we are insular and selfish and only consider our own space and possessions and disregard the worth of other people. [sorry, this is a bit incoherent but I hope you get the drift.]

My wife just phoned to tell me of this awful occurrence last night. We too are thinking of leaving ED and London because we don't want our little boy growing up round here. Is it easy to escape this sort of crime? Yes! It does not often happen in either Portsmouth, where I am from or Lancaster where my wife is from.

Yes I had to take a back street cycle route around OKR today too and consequently got lost - there were loads of forensic people around and a massive white police investigation truck.

Although the weird thing was as I cycled down into a little alley into one of the estates a group of black teenagers shouted out to me: "Hey look at that white girl! How funny is it that she has to cycle round these black man estates cos of the road closure." Did not really know what to think about that but just smiled at them and carried on...

Stop buying cocaine

Stop buying cannabis

Stop buying tamazepam and modafanil (stolen from the NHS) for "recreational use"

Stop tolerating the use of drugs all around us

Ostracise drugs sellers and optional drug users

That might help.

That's no problem - I made a fortune out of it when I lived there! :)

Agreed there is a lot of smack in Pompey, but give me an honest smack head over a crack head any day of the week!!!

Lets not get this problem out of proportion until we know the reasons behind these stabbings. They may not just be random acts of violence - lets wait and hear the facts.

Correct, LadyGooner. BBC Radio has just reported the Bellenden Road stabbing was the result of an argument between a man and a woman who had been drinking together for much of the day.

Ian Blair has just given a press conference in which he said knife murders in the first six months of this year are at the same level as last year.

The impression of knife crime spiralling out of control is, I fear, only fuelled by "campaigns" such as JumpinJourno's - which may be good if they do lead to a more awareness of the dangers of carrying knives. But less good if it leads to the sort of "I'm quitting this area for good" fear of crime that only serves to, do what? Not much, as far as I can see.

"Does not happen often" but it DOES happen. A bit of a pointless comment don't you think?

Hello Keef.>:D<

I would not leave this area because of the 'crime', and I do not fear for my children growing up in London. In fact, I would rather they grow up in London than a provincial town. I embrace the multi-culturalism, and diverse activities and cultural events.

Personally, I would not be wandering around the Bellenden Rd area at 11PM on my own (was she on her own?). I would probably be OK with Lordship lane at that time as it is still relatively busy, but even so I would be very cautious.

    • What was he doing on the stage at Glastonbury? Or on the stage at the other concert in Finsbury Park? Grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst pissed and stoned 20 somethings on the promise of free internet sung-- Oh Jeremy Corbyn---  What were his policies for Northern mining towns with no jobs or infrastructure? Free Internet and university places for youngsters. What were his other manifesto pledges? Why all the ambiguity over Brexit?  I didn't like Thatcher, Blair or May or Tony but I respected them as politicians because they stood by what they believed in. I respect all politicians across the board that stick to their principles. Corbyn didn't and its why he got  annihilated at the polls. A socialist, anti imperialist and anti capitalist that said he voted for an imperialist and pro capitalist cabal. He refused to say how he'd vote over and over again until the last knockings. He did so to appease the Islington elite and middle class students he was courting. The same people that were screaming that Brexit was racist. At the same time the EU were holding black and Asian immigrants in refugee camps overseas but not a word on that! Corbyn created and courted a student union protest movement that screamed at and shouted down anyone not on the left . They claimed Starmer and the centre right of labour were tories. He didn't get elected  because he, his movement and policies were unelectable, twice. He turned out not to have the convictions of his politics and died on his own sword.    Reform won't win an election. All the idiots that voted for them to keep out Labour actually enabled Labour. They'll be back voting tory next time.    Farage wouldn't be able to make his millions if he was in power. He's a very devious shyster but I very much doubt he'd actually want the responsibility that governance requires.
    • The purge of hard left members that were part of Corbyn's, Mcdonnel's and Lansmans momentum that purged the party of right wing and centrist members. That's politics. It's what Blair did to win, its what Starmer had to do to win. This country doesn't vote in extreme left or right governments. That's partly why Corbyn lost  We're pretty much a centrist bunch.  It doesn't make it false either. It's an opinion based on the voting patterns, demography and statistics. Can you explain then why former mining constituencies that despise the tories voted for them or abstained rather than vote for Corbyns Labour?  What is the truth then? But he never got elected!!! Why? He should have been binned off there and then. Why he was allowed to hang about is an outrage. I hold him party responsible for the shit show that we've had to endure since.
    • Depends on what the Barista says doesnt it? There was no physical confrontation with the driver, OP thinks she is being targetted when she isnt. These guys work min wage under strict schedules so give them a break unless they damage your stuff
    • CPR Dave, attendance records are available on Southwark's website. Maggie Browning has attended 100% of meetings. Jon Hartley has attended 65%.
