Well, from what I can see - they're making an outdoors pub at the back with an open-on-one-side extension which will be permanently heated and brightly lit (not making local residents very happy at all - as there's been no consultation at all on this and its been built without the planning application going through). Inside they're got a big open kitchen area.

Great to have a decent place up this end but shoddy shoddy behaviour by the landlords and boo hiss to patio heaters. THey should just give it a whirl and help the smokers give up ...

I did phrase it as a serious question didn't I? No idea why - it was just a whimsical thought and I posted it - I must try harder

The pub itself is looking pretty good tho - but then the removal of those red signs advertising 10 steak meals and bottle of wine for a fiver alone would make it look good

The Dog, The Phoenix, THe Commercial, The Southwark Tavern + lots others are a group called "Castle Inns" which is owned by Mitchels & Butler. M&B are one of the biggest pub cos in the UK (a FTSE 100 company). They run managed houses rather than tennancies.

Expect to see a child friendly pub with interesting beers, average wines (for a pub) and bad food. Much like the Dog.

For those of you crying out for a music venue in the area there is The Half Moon in Herne Hill - 10 minute walk from Lordship Lane.

When will readers of this forum click that "Dulwich" does not start and end on Lordship Lane?!

    • Ah sorry, it was comedy.
    • I have never used AI in my life. It's just notes from my forthcoming monograph on light industry in Dulwich and Camberwell 1879-1946 (dates chosen for obvious reasons).
    • Thank you, this really made me chuckle. It's like you met my brother as he would be the one taking more than his share. Plus the 'pikey' chutney is a winner. Unusual as in can't be identified??? Sadly I'm not the host otherwise I would definitely do that I regularly shop in the Cheese Block and am a fan. But as people have pointed out, there is no cheese shop that charges less based on bulk, so Aldi unusual cheeses may be what the familam receive! Yay, so I can get discounted mouse nibbled cheese still! Oooo, now I do love a Stinking Bishop. It actually offends my stepmum by it's stinkiness but luckily she is not one of the attendees at this particular gathering.  This is blooming genius. It's actually my partner who has the biggest issue with buying in plastic so I will have to hide the wrappers from him!
