The Best Bar in East Dulwich 2007 award - discussion

Recommended Posts

In the interest of fairness I feel I am going to have to try to put aside my bias towards the CPT and actually go to every pub in East Dulwich and make a judgment on this.

The test will be to engage the bar staff in conversation and after a few pints enquire about the meaning of life. Wherever I get the most satisfactory answer will get my vote.

Yes really! I've always liked setup down there and the staff are great. Foods good, music?s varied and I can always get served quickly. Yes it gets busy on the weekend but that doesn?t bother me as I don?t enter LL on a Friday/Saturday night anyway, at The Gowlett mainly you see (playing pool). I really would like them to win The Best Bar in East Dulwich 2007 award, but honestly, it won?t bother them one bit if they don?t. Me on the other hand, I'll be devastated :)-D

Not sure if to put this in the fun Consultation topic or start a new one, but here goes.

I won an award for my nomination of Clockhouse for its Flowers in Bloom entry.

That is to say - Southwark Council have a Flowers in Bloom competition or some such thing and I nominated the Clock house and it won and I won something for my nomination.

Yeah - think that's what it was.

So I visited Laurence at Clockhouse and told him.

He had not actually been told he had won the award.

Southwark sent ME, the nominator, his award for his pub.

So I hope we can be sure the winner of the best bar will actually be told they've won.

Not if Southwark Council have anything to do with it.

Sometimes some of these topics do overlap. I'm just about to start one about cycle lanes and more wasted Southwark Council money.....

Fair enough, different folks and all that. I've just never felt comfy in there, don't know why really, just don't like it. That said, I like the CPT, which most people think is scruffy so there you go.

A while back it would have been the 72, no contest, but I've recently been frequenting the CPT more and more ... hmmmm ...

HST, about half the pubs on the list I haven't been to. You know, the one's down the "wrong" end of LL.

Think this weekend there might have to be a bit of sampling done - all for the purposes of research, you understand. :)-D

Really guys, how many bars can't you walk to in ED? They're all with in staggering distance.

And I definitely need to do some more sampling!

    • Have applied the green roof at a number of properties and no issues you are concerned about detected. Have issues with cats defecating in the vicinity, however, they are not selecting the green roof specifically. Use decent compost, slow release fertiliser specific for green roofs, and lay it methodically not leaving blank patches. It looks amazing when cared for and adds value.
    • Some suggestions for mandatory action might include:- 1. Permit retailers to display facial images on the premises  of previous offenders at their local store. 2. Sound an alert and display images on screens inside the store when the FR flags up a person entering who is on the national database of shoplifters. 3. Physically bar recognised shoplifters from the premises. Should they attempt to force entry then charges should be pressed under aggravated trespass, which  a criminal offence under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. 4. Change the law to allow retailers to have enhanced powers of citizens arrest. What would you suggest? The UK seems to have the most lenient policy towards shoplifting , probably because of other demands on the police force. On the plus side, they may have more time for it now that non-crime hate incidents will no longer be investigated. Other countries, such as the USA have much more sever punishment as does Singapore where repeat offenders or aggravated cases can be sentenced to up to 3 years in prison, a fine, or both.
    • No, we'd have to be in a police state.  You'd have to get this made law.  Unless it is in Reform's policies.  I'll check. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/live-facial-recognition-technology-to-catch-high-harm-offenders Not government policy
