Well said mamaFG! I agree. It's only a shop anyway, not designer, not chichi and not particularly overpriced like many of the existing shops and cafes around here.....

At least Sugar isnt a barbers shop with loads of people sitting or standing outside all day and night making the roundabout area seem untidy. I think the premises would have been better suited as a small HMV outlet or something along the music lines. At least the unit is now filled and looks attractive, all we need now is some decent christmas lights along the lane and maybe we will get a rush of outsiders coming to ED to do xmas shopping!

Who knows, and frankly who cares? I couldnt figure it out myself when I glanced in on the opening week, all I know is it looks nice. Probably wont last five minutes due to high rents and lack of customers but lets make the most of having a reasonably attractive shop front by the roundabout for now. It's a luxury that end of the lane has not had since forever!

"Sugar" is actually at the very end of Grove Vale rather than on LL. I wonder if this difference in address had a substantial effect on the rent payable?

can I help clarify some confusion?

sugar - 100[something] grove vale - individual ladies dress and accessory shop - used to be a barbers - nearest roundabout.

2 lordship lane - ex newsagents, now empty with weird political ramblings in window - owned by dentist from east dulwich practice, planning app to convert to dental surgery.

4 lordship lane - alan's flowers [for orientation]

6 lordship lane - corner site - mirrored windows - used to be NHS now its owned by parkihill who have two slightly different retail applications with planning. rumours of baby clothes shop [any confirmation?]

Frankly I can't keep up. Moved to ED over 3 years ago and it's unrecognisable from the quaint place i fell in love with. However, that said, it's appealing to the lazy sod in me as i can get everything in ED now and never have to venture into town ever again if I don't want! just wish there were't so many baby buggies on the pavements and screaming kids in Le Chandelier of a morning / lunchtime(though the benefit of a spiral staircase is evident ;-) )x

sadly the lovely but expensive childrens shop called RAISIN on east dulwich road has closed down i pass it on my way home although i dont have children i have bought a few gifts and it was a very beautiful shop .i think people might have over estimated east dulwich .....maybe foxtons included ?

Just wanted to add my support to AJ Farmer. When I moved to ED about 20 years ago my ex and I were able to stock our first kitchen out using just that one shop - and Mr Farmer has always been friendly and helpful.

macroban, I don't think there is an "East Dulwich recession"... it was just a bit of an odd little shop with very limited stock. And that parade of shops on ED Road is never very busy, at least not compared with LL/Northcross Rd.
