  1. 'Get a shave' in mine...
  2. I'll be Eddie Large to your Sid Little? No thanks - I've got Jon now remember...
  3. I believe that you might not be fat...
  4. Don't get stroppy *Bob*. As my grandad's boyfriend alway said 'Don't dish it out if you can't take it yourself.'
  5. Are you talking about the response to your description of 'pathetic arguments about religous hypocrisy' or have you been upsetting people about other issues too Poindexter? I think people on here are pretty fair (too fair even) but if you do go all guns blazing you are likely to be stopped in your tracks. That said the sexism stuff on here should be treated with the contempt it deserves.
  6. True - you started well but you ended up being the one grandstanding. 'Welcome to the world of cyber-chat let me tell you how it works...' Not as bad the other day 'ooh I like chips... yeah I love chips too.. chips chips chips...'.
  7. You are supposed to be 'piquing those that exhibit... jealousies, grandstanding, insecurities, bravado and self-importance.'

  9. Grass.
  10. Very earnest *Bob* but you're not telling Jon anything he hasn't already deduced.
  11. Great to see someone argue for the right of people with no 'A' levels to own a Porsche without fear of inverted snobbery. I suppose the point is that people without A levels will be the victims of snobbery and that if they also suffer inverted snobbery then that would be disproportionate and therefore they are entitled to some sort of double victimisation relief. It's a cause that is rarely championed. Good one Jon.
  12. Definitely move. You should try Sidcup. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Bexley_and_Sidcup_%28UK_Parliament_constituency%29
  13. Interesting point about tactical voting on this thread. 2005 results Labour Tessa Jowell 19,059 45.4 Liberal Democrat Jonathan Mitchell 10,252 24.4 Conservative Kim Humphreys 9,200 21.9 Together the Tories and Liberals got 46.3% of the vote and perfect tactical voting would have got rid of her. That said prior to 2005 the Liberals were in third place so it would have been more sensible to vote Tory to get the Labour Party out. I think that the vote is too evenly split to vote tactically but if that were my intention I think I'd vote Tory as I don't see the lib dems doing very well this time.
  14. Congratulations Spangles30. In order to provide anecdotal evidence as to the nature and type of gentrification that is taking place in South East London could you give us a bit of background as to the type of person buying from you and the type of person you are buying from? If the stereotypes are correct then I'd guess you are being bought out by 28-33 year old City workers who have been renting in Clapham or thereabouts and you are buying off a retiree who is downsizing or moving into care or something. Is that right?

No response? Walked past on Sunday afternoon and guess what? Closed. That's what.
  16. I am a big fan of CP. Good mix of reliable chains and interesting independent eateries. Some good pubs too. Soft shell crab rolls at Edo were the clincher- thanks to Jeremy for the tip. I walked there from Camberwell in 50 minutes. That makes it pretty close. It is also a very pleasant walk through some lovely parts of Dulwich.

Spangles30 - it was Brad's 'Nunheadian' for people from Nunhead that started the what do you call a person from ED debate. It is useful to have different words for people living in different areas. It happens everywhere.

  19. I believe some people have been duped. There are companies who sell buy to let investment property over the phone to lay-people using extremely aggressive sales teams. the language used to sell them is confusing. 'You can buy a house for ?600' can mean that you can take ownership of a flat and a mortgage for slightly more than the value of the flat and all you have to pay is the ?600 arrangement fee. Oh and the monthly shortfall between the rent and the mortgage.. And the deal structures are intenionally complex. If someone offers a ?100k flat with a 15% discount on completion, guaranteed 6% p.a. rental yield for the first two years and a free plasma TV then it is quite hard to say how much the flat cost. The chances are that the land registry will get it wrong and just log it as ?100k. People may have been motivated by greed but I still can't get any enjoyment out of seeing them go bankrupt.
  20. Don't worry I expect that your child is just keen to get into a decent secondary school.
  21. Playa de las Americas with the BOTPs. Karaoke every night.

You've been assimilated!
  23. 'We don't want to be another Clapham' is another good one.
  24. That was not intended to be an insult - had that been my intention I may have gone for East Dullards. But that is not how I feel. What is the correct word? East Dulwichians. East Dulwichers? East Dulothians? I genuinely don't know. If anyone other than Spangles30 was offended then please accept my humblest apologies.
  25. OK then. I do find East Dullites seem to spend a lot of time feigning disappointment at the arrival of Foxtons.
